Neutral A is a typically fast ground attack performed by pressing A while leaving the control stick neutral. Some characters have natural combos performable by tapping the A button multiple times.

Three Hit Combos

The most common type of A combos. Involves the attacker doing a three hit combo at max.

Brawl

Two Hit Combos

Rarer than three hit combos. Does a maximum of two hits instead of three.

Brawl

Rapid A Combos

In Brawl, some characters have a turbo A attack, meaning that by holding the attack button, their first A attack will repeat endlessly. These characters have natural combos that can be repeated forever as long as the player continues pressing the A button (and does not get attacked):

In Super Smash Bros.

Melee

Brawl

.* Pit is the only character in Brawl to have both a three hit combo and a rapid A combo.

Many neutral A attacks are jabs, or quick punches meant to put the opponent off balance or combo into subsequent hits.

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, all one needs to do is hold down the A button to automatically do their attack combo and Rapid A combos.[1]
