RAIN (レイン) is an East Japan smasher who is widely known in the Japanese Smash scene.
RAIN began his Smash career playing Fox in Melee, notably beating Bombsoldier in the winners bracket at the Jack Garden Tournament.
In Brawl, he mains Meta Knight. In 2010, RAIN traveled to the United States to compete at Apex 2010. He placed 7th after losing to Lee Martin and Ally. In 2011, he competed at GENESIS 2 and placed 17th. He later attended Apex 2012, placing 13th after losing to ESAM and DEHF, and he also notably provided Japanese commentary for Otori's and Nietono's set at grand finals. One of his biggest achievements in Smash came months later, where he won Japan's first international Super Smash Bros. Brawl tournament, Sun Rise Tournament, defeating top players such as Mikeneko, Otori, and Vinnie. He was formerly ranked 14th on the 2014 SSBBRank.
In SSB4, he mains Bayonetta, with Cloud and Diddy Kong as strong secondaries, and used to main Sheik before update 1.1.5 nerfed her. He was considered to be the best Sheik player in Japan and one of the best in the world when he mained her, with notable placings such as a 9th placing at EVO 2015. He was also one of the most dominant forces in the Umebura series of tournaments, with a streak of four consecutive wins in singles from Umebura 13 until Umebura 18. He is currently ranked 24th on the JAPAN Smash 4 Power Rankings and 66th on the Panda Global Rankings 100.
In Ultimate, RAIN is a Joker main and is considered one of the best Joker players in Japan. He was also considered one of the best Wolf, Cloud, and Chrom players in Japan prior to dropping the characters.
RAIN is known for his ability to understand a player's habits after having played them multiple times (commonly known as downloading) and exploiting these habits to his advantage. As a result, RAIN does much better in Japanese tournaments than when he travels internationally. He is currently ranked 30th on the JAPAN Power Rankings. He has also competed in Melee in the past, and was ranked 2nd on the 2010 Kansai Melee Ranking Battles.
