Clone characters are characters that have nearly identical movesets with slight variations in the attacks. They are much easier to include in a game than original characters, as the designers need only to create the character's model, then add the original character's attacks and modify them slightly.

Replacement

Replacement is a newcomer that had a similar moveset or play style to that of a previous playable character in SSBM, but the previous character doesn't return in Brawl. The replacements also are in the same universe as its predecessor.
