The second battle condition references Mr. Sandman's raw strength, being among the final opponents in most Punch-Out!! games. In World of Light, the Mr. Sandman spirit must be defeated in order to access the Little Mac fighter, which references Mr. Sandman's title as World Circuit Champion being passed on to Little Mac.

Trivia

• Prior to the 1.1.0 update, the ordering of all Punch-Out!! spirits after Glass Joe was much different than in the final release, being based on the opponent order in Punch-Out!! for Wii: Von Kaiser, King Hippo, Piston Hondo, Bear Hugger, Great Tiger, Don Flamenco, Soda Popinski, Bald Bull, Super Macho Man and Mr. Sandman.
• Despite first appearing in Super Punch-Out!! for the arcade, Soda Popinski is grouped with the boxers that debuted in the NES installment. This is likely because he was named "Vodka Drunkenski" in the arcade.
• Disco Kid and Aran Ryan are the only boxers from Punch-Out!! for Wii to not appear as a spirit in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
  • Likewise, Mike Tyson and Mr. Dream are the only boxers from the NES Punch-Out!! to not have a spirit in Ultimate, likely because they did not appear in the Wii Punch-Out!!, which is where the spirit artwork is taken from, as well as that Nintendo's license to use Mike Tyson's likeness expired.
• All spirit battles against Punch-Out!! spirits are fought as Stamina Battles on Boxing Ring.
• Don Flamenco's spirit battle is the only Punch-Out!! spirit battle not to play music from the Punch-Out!! universe.
• Great Tiger's spirit battle is the only Punch-Out!! spirit battle to have more than one opponent.
• In Adventure mode, all Punch-Out!! spirits that appear in spirit battles, as well as Little Mac himself, are controlled by light: they either appear in the World of Light or on Galeem's side in the Final Battle.
• Punch-Out!! is one of the six universes with playable characters not to have any female spirits (or group spirits that include female characters), the others being Yoshi, Game & Watch, R.O.B., Final Fantasy and Fatal Fury.
