Captain Falcon (SSBU): Difference between revisions

(Admittedly, I thought Falcon mains were full of it, but after creating a spirit set that dramatically reduces ground mobility, I noticed that Falcon does, in fact, slide backwards a considerable distance during his turnaround, and I haven't come across another instance of this yet...)

Captain Falcon has been noticeably buffed by game updates so far.  In update 3.1.0, back aerial's knockback was increased, which slightly restored its KO potential after it was initially nerfed in the transition from Smash 4. Knee Smash's sweetspot and Falcon Kick's clean hit were both made easier to land, thanks to adjustments to their hitboxes. Captain Falcon's close range options and combo game were also improved: forward tilt's base knockback was increased, up tilt's lag was decreased, and Raptor Boost's uppercut gained a marginal decrease to its start-up lag alongside increases to its hitstun and the damage threshold of its armor. In 8.0.0, Raptor Boost was buffed again; the grounded version has a longer horizontal range, its old Smash 4 launch angle and decreased its knockback, allowing combos to start quicker and extend into further percents, as well as the meteor hitbox being more consistent. Additionally, down tilt and up smash were given increased knockback, dash attack has less ending lag, and Falcon Kick is much quicker and stronger on the clean hit, making it a better burst option. He was among the many characters that received a shield buff in update 7.0.0, but he also gained a small jab buff that allows it to connect better.

Overall, Captain Falcon fares much better than he did at the beginning of the metagame, however due to online tournaments currently being more prominent, his true viability still remains unknown.
Following update 7.0.0's minor buffs to Captain Falcon's shield and neutral attack, update 8.0.0 granted him a number of very useful buffs. Most notably, Raptor Boost was buffed again: the grounded version has a longer horizontal range, regained its launching angle from Smash 4, and its knockback was decreased. Altogether, these changes allow it to start combos quicker and extend into further percents. Conversely, aerial Raptor Boost's meteor hitbox became much more consistent, thanks to its higher priority. Additionally, down tilt and up smash were given increased knockback, dash attack has less ending lag, and Falcon Kick is much quicker and gained a stronger clean hit, making it a better burst option.
