Background Matchmaking is an online mode that allows players to play others modes while the game searches for an online battle. Upon selecting this menu item, players will need to set the Quickplay mode, fighter, and preferred rules before they can start the background matchmaking. Once started, there will be a special tab on the top right corner which will display the stock icon of the selected fighter and a progress bar showing how close the game is to finding an online match. The online match will begin as soon as an opponent has been found.
