Evolution 2007, officially EVO World 2007, or simply known as EVO 2007 was the 6th edition of the Evolution Championship Series, a fighting game tournament held annually in Las Vegas, Nevada, which took place on August 24th-26th, 2007, at the Green Valley Ranch. It was the final tournament of the EVO 2007 circuit, which consisted of EVO South, EVO North, EVO West, and EVO East. The top 8 finishers for each of the previous events were automatically qualified for the bracket round at EVO World.[1] It was the largest Melee tournament before the international release of Brawl with 270 players in attendance.
Tournament Summary
Some notable upsets occurred during this tournament. Mango who at the time was a Jigglypuff main on the come up beat Mew2King in pools, then considered to be the best player in the world. Mew2King then lost to Chillin in the losers top 8 qualifier to finish at an underwhelming 9th place. Mango continued his run by upsetting Ken in winners-semis. He then lost to HugS in winners finals and Ken in a losers finals rematch to finish at 3rd place. Ken, after getting upset by Mango, made a losers run beating ChuDat, PC Chris, Mango, and HugS in 2 sets of grand finals to win the tournament. After the tournament many analysts wrote off Mango's win against Mew2King and 3rd place finish as a fluke until his win at Pound 3.
