Greninja (SSBU): Difference between revisions

→‎In competitive play: added a summary of him in competitive play. Now that I look over it, it echoes a lot from changes from Smash 4, and I dont' know if it's acceptable to put some of those changes in this section.

Initially, players quickly picked up that Greninja had been buffed from ''Smash 4'', as its dash attack was now a combo starter along with its up and down throw, its up smash was larger and could hit through platforms, its neutral aerial had less end lag, its already quick mobility had been increased, making it even faster, and due to the addition of more hitstun, Greninja had a more versatile and powerful combo game. However, there were some inherent nerfs from the transition from Smash 4 to ''Ultimate''. Its down aerial was nerfed in that it had more end lag and could not combo as well, its [[footstool]] combos were heavily nerfed due to that footstools could be [[teched]], but with the addition of its new combo starters somewhat made up for this loss.
As the metagame progressed, Greninja was thought to be a high to top tier character with its new frame data being among the best. However, Greninja is not a very popular pick compared to other characters such as {{SSBU|Joker}} and {{SSBU|Snake}} due to its high learning curve and inconsistency when it comes to finishing a stock. Nevertheless, smashers such as {{Sm|Stroder}}, {{Sm|Jw}}, and {{Sm|Lea}} have made notable results using the character, showing and proving the character to be a more than viable pick in the meta.

<!--If you are planning to add a player you consider to be notable, please provide tournament results in some shape or form in the edit summary (be it a link to a results thread or bracket of placing high in a tournament of other notable players or a video of them beating a notable player). Winning tournaments without notable players present is generally not enough to warrant a spot.-->
