Command Selection is Hero's down special move in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Overview
When the command is inputted, the Hero will go into a thinking pose, and the player will be given a random selection of four spells from Hero's spell pool to choose from. The spells available are chosen upon inputting the move, and if the player does not see a spell they wish to use at the time, they can shield and immediately cancel the spell selection, and then input the special again to get another random selection of four spells.
The spells that can be used through Command Selection are as follows:
Oomph: Raises the strength of all attacks for a limited period of time.
Psyche Up: Drastically increases the strength of Hero's next attack. The effect will last until a move connects.
Bounce: Causes Hero to gain a purple shield around him that will reflect projectiles until the shield breaks, or the move expires.
Heal: Heals Hero for an unspecified amount.
Flame Slash: Hero coats his sword in fire, and slashes forward. Has a wide hitbox.
Kacrackle Slash: Hero swings his sword directly in front of him, and any opponents hit by the slash are frozen.
Acceleratle: Drastically increases Hero's movement speed.
Kaboom: Throws a projectile that explodes when it reaches an opponent.
Snooze: Throws a projectile that causes opponents to sleep when it connects. It travels through opponents, and can hit multiple people.
Hatchet Man: Hero jumps forward, swinging his sword as it is coated in Fire. Guarantees a Critical Hit will occur.
Thwack: Hero swings his hand forward, and a dark purple spark appears directly in front of him. Has a chance to instantly KO the opponent, with a higher chance for it to occur the more damage your opponent has.
Zoom: Hero jumps directly upward, going past the limits of the camera if the stage does not have a ceiling, and then falls directly downwards onto the stage.
Kaclang: Hero crosses his arms and turns metal, becoming completely invincible to all damage and knockback for a limited time. However, he will also be unable to move or attack until Kaclang wears off.
Metal Slash: Hero slashes his sword forward. Instantly KOs any metal opponent.
Hocus Pocus: A spell with random effects, chosen upon inputting the move. The only effect currently seen is causing Hero to fall under the timer effect.
Magic Burst: Hero causes a purple explosion to surround him. The move uses up all MP currently available, and is more powerful the more MP the player has before using it.
Kamikazee: Hero crosses his arms and begins to glow. After a few seconds, he explodes, instantly KOing himself and delivering heavy damage and knockback to any opponent nearby.

Origin
In the Dragon Quest series, all magic chosen using a command list that lists off every spell the party member currently knows. Notably, the command list in Dragon Quest lacks the random element that the Command Selection has in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, most likely due to a combination of balance purposes and the unwieldiness of having to navigate the full spell list in the middle of a match.
Trivia
- The Hero's spell menu differs depending on the language the character is played in. If the game is played in Japanese, the menu is silver, whereas internationally, the menu is brown. This is based on the English localization of Dragon Quest XI, where the menus, text boxes, etc. were changed in color.
