—Description from Ultimate's Move List

Thrust Uppercut (突き上げアッパーカット , Thrust Uppercut) is one of three up special moves usable by Mii Brawlers in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. It serves as a replacement for Piston Punch from Super Smash Bros. 4.

Description

When used, the Mii Brawler performs a jumping uppercut that deals five hits in total, with the last hit occurring after the Brawler switches hands. That last hit deals weak vertical knockback, resulting in a rather lackluster amount of KO potential. It grants the Brawler's arm brief intangibility from frames 3 to 7. Compared to the attack it replaces, Thrust Uppercut boasts a higher damage output and travels at a slight angle, which can make it considerably more useful for recovery, and it can even be angled to provide even more horizontal momentum. However, due to the game's new knockback mechanics, this trait can sometimes cause the recovery attempt to fail if the Mii is knocked offstage from behind, as the move will always be angled forwards depending on which direction the player is facing in.

Origin

The move originates from the Super Smash Bros. universe and games, and is likely based on Mario's Super Jump Punch.

Trivia

  • In the trailer for the Mii Fighters, Thrust Uppercut was shown to have flame and explosion effects. In the final game, however, these effects appear to be absent for unknown reasons.
