Origin

Vulpix's official artwork from Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen.

Vulpix is a Fire-type Pokémon introduced in Pokémon Red and Blue, though it was exclusive to Blue, acting as the equivalent to Growlithe. It evolves into Ninetales with the help of a Fire Stone.

Alolan Vulpix's official artwork from Pokémon Sun and Moon.

In Sun and Moon, several Generation I Pokemon received Alolan variations to accommodate for the climate changes in the new game — among those was Vulpix, who received an Ice-type variation, with its evolution now requiring an Ice Stone and Ninetails changing to an Ice/Fairy-type. An Alolan Vulpix nicknamed "Snowy" is featured in the Sun and Moon animated series as Lillie's first Pokémon, having hatched from an egg.
