(I don't think Nintendo would show off a character like that and then later say they're not playable, especially when they represent a new series.) |

Confirmed elements
Veterans
Other characters appear to be silhouetted, but they are less clear.
Other confirmed new elements
- Inkling, with female and male designs from the original Splatoon, has been confirmed to appear in the game.
Development
Prior to the initial reveal, Nintendo filed a number of trademarks on November 12th, 2017, notably including a Japanese Super Smash Bros. logo.[1] The logo was compared to the Japanese Super Smash Bros. Melee logo as they were nearly identical in appearance. Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo Switch was officially revealed on March 8th, 2018 via a Nintendo Direct. Shortly after, Masahiro Sakurai, the lead developer for all previous Smash titles, confirmed in a tweet that he had been working on the game "in silence, day after day".[2][3]

Trivia
- This is the first Smash game since Super Smash Bros. Melee to not have a third party character introduced in its debut trailer. Super Smash Bros. Brawl had Snake, while Super Smash Bros. 4 had Mega Man.
- The revealed logo includes a slim cross going through the word 'SUPER' and the letter 'A'. This is the only Smash logo to do this.
