Little Tip: Even though there is preference, no Smash game is truly superior to the other. Trying to force someone to like your game (known as bandwagon) is just going to hurt both communities.

Hello fellow Smashers. Welcome to my page. I am a decent Smasher relatively new to the competitive scene. I formerly went under the IP 45.37.25.25. If you have any questions or if anything on this page needs to be changed, refer to the talk page. Now for my story.

My Story

I was initially very skeptical about playing the Smash series starting with Brawl for its T Rating. But after reading about some of the SSE on Kirby Wiki, I was pretty excited. When I found out my dad had Brawl on his USB Loader GX in 2011, me and my brother found ourselves instantly having loads of fun. I mained a weak Lucario and always handicapped myself to 170% (I later dropped it in favor of Meta Knight in 2013), and my brother played a Snake fearsome to scrubs like me. In early 2014, my brother showed me the PAC-MAN trailer and I was stoked. In August 2014, Smash 4 became all I really talked about. For Christmas, I got both versions of Smash 4 (my brother also got his own copy of Smash 3DS) and I fell in love like I did in Brawl. After I got Smash 4, I could not stop playing. For my 11th birthday, I got Melee, but because I cannot enter tournaments, it didn't sit with me as well as Brawl or Smash 4. However, it still is a very fun game that I still play to this day, and it has taught me a lot. I still have much to learn about Smash, but I'm slowly learning.

Opinions

  • SHEIK IS NOT THE ONLY CHARACTER WORTH ANYTHING IN SMASH 4 (taken from Serpent King)
  • MELEE IS NOT THE ONLY GAME WORTH ANYTHING IN SMASH (look above)
  • I hate wiki users that try and fill pages with their own bias, to the point where SW:AGF is irrelevant.
  • All Melee techniques are mostly irrelevant to me besides L-canceling, because I pocket Ganondorf.
  • Dedede is overrated in Smash 4 tbch in terms of tiers.
  • RIP Iwata. You were a beautiful sunset at noon.

Skill List

Neutral-Short Range

Not terrible, though not great. My reaction time is average at best, so fighting a rushdown player usually=loss, though if I'm fighting a defensive player I usually win.

Neutral-Long Range

In Melee and Brawl, I'm decent here. In Smash 4, not really. I play Falco in Melee and Brawl, who simply dominates from a range.

Punish

Possibly my best area. I play Ganondorf and Marth in all games, and they are some of the best punishers in the Smash games.

Edge Guard

Needs a little work. It's honestly difficult to do so in Smash 4, and I don't try in Melee because ledge mechanics hate Marth.

Recovery

No real issues unless I'm playing someone like Roy (in Melee, well actually I have issues recovering with almost every character in Melee) or Little Mac (in Smash 4).

Tech Skill

Skill Competency
Wavedash Able to do it, not able to easily use it for much other than fundamental spacing. I don't get how this is so useful outside of spacing.
L-Cancel Able to do it, rarely miss.
Dash Dance Able to do it, not able to do anything with it.
Floor Tech Good at this, rarely miss it. Sometimes I'll accidentally roll into danger though.
Ceiling & Wall Tech Almost never.
Ledge Tech Considering my reaction time, never.
DI I forget to in Melee, and in Smash 4 my DI is poor.
Crouch Cancel I nearly never crouch in Melee, which is the only game it exists in.
Ledge Drop Attack Occasionally.
Power Shield Never.
Proper Roll In Melee, it's impractical, so only in the games after it.
Proper Spot Dodge Not in Melee, but in Smash 4 yes.
Meteor Cancel Never.
Drop Cancel I've never done it and probably never will.
Jab Cancel I don't understand this...
Chain Grab It depends.
SHFFL Most of the time.

These two high profile figures in the community are hefty influences for me. If you haven't already, check them out:

I also look up to quite a few figures on the wiki, such as Omega Tyrant, Serpent King, Toomai, Nyargleblargle, Aidanzapunk, PokemonMasterJamal3, and even Miles of SmashWiki.

Mains

In Melee, I main Marth and Ganondorf, and may also use Falco, Captain Falcon, Jigglypuff, and Peach.

In Brawl, I main Meta Knight and Marth, while also leaning on Falco, Snake, Lucario, Charizard, Wolf, Fox, Ganondorf, and Bowser.

In Smash 4, I main Ganondorf and Little Mac, and frequently use Ike, Greninja, Marth, Bowser, ROB, and Luigi.

Competency Chart

Asked Serpent King for the code for Melee and Brawl and stole the Smash 4 code from Miles of SmashWiki. These charts list the characters in the order I enjoy playing as them, how fluid and free I feel with them, and how well I do with them. A few notes:

1) Apologies for Smash 4 looking different from the others; as mentioned earlier, the Smash 4 chart was taken from MoS, not SK.

2) There are borders between my good and bad characters: Mewtwo is the worst of my good characters in Melee; Ness is the worst of my good characters in Brawl; Samus is probably the worst of my good characters in Smash 4.

3) This is not a list of my favorite characters, though that is somewhat a factor. If it was based solely on that, Link would be much higher on all three, and Sonic and Shulk would be lower on my Smash 4 list.

4) This is not a tier list, of course. If it were, for example, Dedede, Mewtwo, Ganondorf, Bowser, and Marth would be much lower on the Smash 4 list.

Melee

IntenseDifficulty.png

He feels so good for me to play. If the ledge mechanics were the same as Brawl, he would be perfect. Really strong and ok speed. And he doesn't require a lightning fast reaction time to play. Gotta love that dair and laser, not to mention a shine into up air.. However, his recovery is possibly the worst in the game, and almost every character in the game has a bad recovery. Also that fair has annoying hitbox placement, not to mention his fast falling speed, and he is hand cancer to play. FALCON PUNCH! In all seriousness, I like the fact that he has both speed AND power. However, he has a completely terrible recovery.

VeryHardDifficulty.png

One of the only characters in Melee with a good recovery and it just dominates Dreamland 64. However, its horrible ground attacks irk me. Another one of the only characters with a good recovery. Combine that with the fact that she has a down smash that can potentially do 95% and you have yourself a pretty insane character. However, her ground attacks aside from down smash are pretty bad. Nice and average. However, he doesn't feel powerful like he does in Smash 4. Shine, shine, up smash. Playing him is hand cancer though, and he is the only one of his three appearances to have a fair that is annoying to rely on. Dthrow zero death to fair? Nice. But her recovery is completely nonexistent (alleviated through Zelda though). He has #thatPOWER that Mario lacks. However, his recovery blows. Nothing really bad about this character: she has good power, decent speed, and an excellent recovery. However, she feels a little bit disjointed from the cast: no one else is really a zoner. She feels wonky in this game, even though this is the only game where she is any good.. Dthrow, pummel, Fsmash! Poor recovery and weird physics tho.

HardDifficulty.png

Good recovery, but that's most of what it has unfortunately. Gotta love that u throw though. Good recovery, good power, good zoning, and of course, dthrow upB. Little bit clunky though. I like Roy, but he is possibly the most poorly designed character in Melee. Up smash is so satisfying and a decent recovery. However he has no range. His complete lack of aerial movement and completely terrible recovery irk me. That wavedash is not going to do him favors for me. Nothing to say here.

NormalDifficulty.png

His down smash is good, but he literally has no recovery and no OOS game. Why? Powerful, but too slow and really bad recovery. Terrible design. IDK what to say more. Powerful and pretty fast but still no vertical recovery. No L-canceling on his very laggy aerials and no moonwalk (I don't use the latter though). Nothing really to redeem him.

EasyDifficulty.png

I never really played him much. Do I need to say anything? Ok, the character I like playing as the least in Melee. Absolutely terrible. No speed, power, recovery, or approach. I don't like playing as him in the slightest.

Brawl

SSBB Icon.png Character Competency Chart: Brawl SSBB Icon.png
IntenseDifficulty.png

Obligatory. Really fluid and he can use two fairs in a short hop, nice! I don't feel him as much as I do in Melee though. Why did he have to get nerfed senseless? Well at least he still has some power and has Flame Choke. Dthrow Bair UTILT! I like his character design and he is very good. I wish he had air speed though, and he was completely butchered in Smash 4.. I used to main it. Right here shows that Brawl has the best overall character design in the Smash series. Excellent character, though I wish it wasn't so overreliant on aura to kill, and they completely gutted it in Smash 4. Another great example of character design. This is my brother's main and I am terrified of him. Really bad air game though.

VeryHardDifficulty.png

Unlike Melee or Smash 4, not only do I enjoy playing as him, he feels solid and I have the potential to win against human players with him. Needs a little bit of a better recovery. He feels so much better in this game than Melee. He is not unreasonably slow (though still very sluggish) and still has power. His recovery was not fixed though, and they butchered Whirling Fortress's offensive use. Very good character, solid speed, decent recovery, and excellent camping abilities. His power, reach, and grab game left something to be desired however. Thunder out of a chain of dthrows into an up smash: instant kill on most relevant fastfallers. His air game was pretty bad though. To this day I still love laser locking, and dair still has uses despite being nerfed. However, they took away shine (though that made him hand cancer to play) and fair is an even more annoying more to have to rely on. My favorite version of Fox: unlike Melee, he doesn't make my hands ache, and unlike Smash 4, speed isn't all he has. The worst recovery of the three though. Ftilt Bair DAIR! However, he has no recovery and fair is so annoyingly landing laggy. I miss wobbling and they didn't fix their recovery. Everything else about them is pretty good though. One of the longest distance recoveries in Brawl and good speed and power. I simply just don't play him a lot: he is pretty bland. TONS of bananas. I hate his recovery and lack of power however.

HardDifficulty.png

Weaving in and out with fair and dair is fun. Needs a better recovery though. Awesome smashes and his aerials are fun to use. However his recovery is not that good and his aerials are really bad, I find him underrated with his speed and power. Bad recovery though. I definitely enjoy her more in Brawl than Smash 4, her sideB and bair are awesome. Kinda weak outside of that though. I don't like him as much in Brawl as in Smash 4, because he is part of the Trainer and has a REALLY bad recovery. However Rock Smash is one of my favorite moves in the series. So Much Better than Melee or Smash 4. Oil Panic is good, smashes are good, tilts are good, aerials are good, and recovery is good. His attacks are a little too ending and landing laggy though. Underrated. She has a pretty good horizontal recovery and Side B is fun. They butchered down smash though, and her vertical recovery no longer exists. ARROWS! His recovery is AMAZING too. However he is far too weak for me. Still average, but his worst appearance yet. I don't like or hate anything about him. Good speed, good horizontal recovery, and good power. Hate his vertical recovery though. I like throwing Pikmin at people. His recovery is Melee Dr. Mario levels of bad though, and I just don't do as well with him as I do other characters.

NormalDifficulty.png

Part of the Pokemon Trainer and really bad recovery. Good edgeguarding ability and meh aerials I guess. They took away the one thing that was good about him, but didn't fix his critical weaknesses. PK Flash is cool and bthrow is good. Poor recovery and bad smashes though. Fair and nair are pretty good, and his recovery is almost as good as Pit's. That's it though. I hate Brawl Ike. Sure he's strong and has the longest range of any character in Brawl, but his attacks are so slow and his recovery is terrible. See Ike, only weaker, with less range, the same speed if not slower and a worse recovery. Really fast, but too weak for me. See Sheik, only with slightly faster mobility, a better recovery, and no moveset outside of his specials.

EasyDifficulty.png

Still terrible design. Tall, floaty, light, slow, with attacks that are not strong enough to make up for their lack of speed. Too weak and too slow, and feels too floaty. Nice landing lag on her aerials though. Possibly the character I dislike playing the most in Brawl. They took everything away that was good about it in Melee, and no fundamental issues were fixed. Part of the Trainer, with no grab game, no recovery, with some of the slowest moves in the game, and none except up smash (which you might never use) being strong enough to make up for it. I don't like a single thing about her good in any sense of the word.

Smash 4

Character Competency Chart -- SSB4 Edition
IntenseDifficulty.png Some annoying issues that he had in Brawl were addressed and his playstyle fits me more than ever. With customs, I almost never lose. We all know the significant nerf he received. He's still fun to play as and I do pretty well with him. I feel like the best Mac player on For Glory. This does not need explaining. I formerly mained Bowser until I stopped being able to use him well. With customs on he is a literal beast and my brother pockets him. Very fun to play as and excellent scrub slayer. I feel like I don't get rewarded for hardwork though. Combo god with a good recovery. Add customs to the mix and you have yourself a terrifying character. I simply can't do as well with him as I do other characters. No explanation needed, He is So Much Better than in Brawl and I actually have fun with him unlike in Brawl. I simply don't do as well with him as others. The character you would never expect became DLC. So he's really fun to play as, is very scary, and scrubs are no match for me on the Wii U. However, he is really difficult to play as, especially with the 3DS's gimped controls.
VeryHardDifficulty.png Down tilt kills are disrespectful. His recovery is still a tad problematic though. With customs on, I simply don't lose. She is far too light and tall though. If I start to do better with him than Ganon, I might consider maining him, but right now, I don't do as well with him as Leo does. I used to main Greninja, and I consider maining it again. However, as of now, it's attacks are the slowest in endlag and it means I get punished for free usually. I pocket him, and I utilize his rushdown capabilities to the fullest. With customs on, one of his few weaknesses is addressed: recovery. I wish the Knee Smash was good in any sense though. I like Diddy Kong and I do well with him, especially with Rocketbarrel Attack equipped. His recovery has some serious issues however. They gave him the wonderful Beep Boop and Robo Ken Combo, and his recovery and camping abilities are mostly intact. He feels a little too floaty though. I like most things about this character (mainly the fact that my brother pockets this character) except for his gutted up air. Her down smash functions, her airdodge was fixed, and she has a vertical recovery again. Her endurance could be better though. My brother's main and his recovery does me favors no matter what. However his grab is a bit too slow.
HardDifficulty.png I like everything about this character except for how annoying he is and his poor grab. Possibly the best character with customs on. His problems with getting hit persist, so I am a walking punching bag with him. They flatout ruined him in Smash 4. Some things I like such as his speed are intact thigh. No need to say anything besides the fact that this is his best appearance yet. I don't do too well with him though. Again, nothing to say. I liked WFT before 1.1.0, but after it I started to do really well with him, especially with Jumbo Hoop equipped. Some hitbox placements are still awkward though. My favorite version of Ness. Nothing bad about him besides his recovery and up/down smashes. See Ness. My least favorite version of Fox. If it wasn't for his speed, he might have been at the bottom. They took away his camping abilities and made his recovery worse, but they fixed some of his weaknesses, so I do better with him he than in Brawl. Possibly my least favorite overall character in the game. I do well with him though. He might've been at the bottom if I wasn't counting customs.
NormalDifficulty.png My least favorite version of Falco and I don't do well with him. His aerials are useful (outside of dair) now though.I don't enjoy him as much as in Brawl, but hey, they gave him a recovery. I really don't do too well with this character, but I see some merit in the KK Dash. Fun to play as and definitely better than in Melee, but his weaknesses from Brawl persist and most of his moves have become situational. Nothing I like about this character except Charge Shot. Completely ruined this character. Nothing good is in this character anymore. Maybe she is higher, but I don't like her stubby sword and her weird mechanics. Camping abilities are pretty good, but that is it. My third least favorite character in the game and my second least favorite to fight against. Not to mention the fact that I can't do well with him. This character is not bad, but he feels too slow, floaty, and weak for my tastes. My second least favorite overall character, and by far my least favorite to fight. Even though I have so far only beat 1 Sonic player ever, I don't do well with him in the slightest. Not as bad as Melee and pretty good in customs. Almost everything from Brawl was removed though.
EasyDifficulty.png BY FAR THE SINGLE WORST CHARACTER IN THE GAME, WHETHER CUSTOMS ARE ON OR OFF. Nothing left to say. Pretty good in customs, but that is it entirely. Even worse than in Brawl or Melee. Nothing good about this character whatsoever. Nothing from Brawl was really fixed. Nothing to say. I used to think Robin was the worst character in the game. Still can't win with him though. I've never won with Mega Man besides once against two really bad players. The character I win the least with. I never have won with this character and I never have done anything productive with her.
