Other changes[4]
- The Games & More and Online menus have been rearranged to fit the amiibo and Share options, respectively.
- Like most other amiibo-related changes this update, the menu option will not appear on older 3DS models, so the Games & More menu remains unchanged on these systems.
- The default setting for Solo Smash now has a single CPU opponent instead of two.
- For Glory stats display average KOs and falls to two decimal places instead of zero.
- The game manual can be accessed from the main menu.
- amiibo-related Tips have been added to the game.
- These appear even on older 3DS models.
- Certain custom moves, such as Link's Power Bow and Quickfire Bow, have been modified to fit and be on par with their Wii U counterparts.
- The AI has been updated to match the Wii U version.
- When the bridge in Gerudo Valley reforms after being broken, players are now given time to recover before the camera returns to the default position.

- Local Wireless will only work between 1.0.5 and 1.0.6 once version 1.0.6 is installed.
- Replays saved with previous game versions will no longer play after receiving this update.
- Added a new functionality for purchasing DLC. A new fighter, Mewtwo, has been made available for those who were given codes. Players who do not yet have Mewtwo can still fight against it in online matches and watch replays of it on the Replay Channel. The DLC shop shares the same music as the trophy shop.
- Adjusted the game balance by refining the strengths of some fighters.
1.0.7
- This update has resolved the issue in which the game erroneously interprets Global Smash Power as invalid data and becomes unable to connect to the Internet after using the new Mewtwo DLC in the following game modes: Classic, All-Star, Stadium, Trophy Rush, and 3DS exclusive mode Smash Run.
- Mewtwo's customs can no longer be used via a glitch.
- Replays saved with previous game versions can still be played.
1.0.8
- Three new downloadable fighters: Lucas, Roy, and Ryu
- Added compatibility with the NFC Reader/Writer accessory, scheduled to be released in 2015. Users will be able to use amiibo accessories with their Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo 3DS XL and Nintendo 2DS systems and compatible games using the NFC Reader/Writer.
- Adjusted the game balance by refining the strengths of some fighters.
Concurrent with the update to the game itself, an app named Smash Controller was released on the Nintendo 3DS eShop for $0.99 USD. The app is a standalone instance of the "Wii U" menu in the 3DS version, allowing players without their own copy to use their 3DS system as a controller for the Wii U version. This is the only functionality of the app; the ability to transfer custom characters is not present.
