Merge.png It has been suggested that this article or section be merged with Short hop fast fall L-cancel.
The reason given for the merge is: Basically the same thing, without L-cancels. Not too much info, a section on the SHFFL page would be nice. (Discuss)

The short hop fast fall, commonly abbreviated as "SHFF", is a technique in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Smash Bros. 4 that enables the player to perform and land aerials quickly. SHFFing plays a large role in the metagames of characters with quick, long-ranged aerials, such as Marth, as it is an effective way of spacing, edge-guarding and applying pressure to the opponent. While technically possible in Melee, it is rarely used in competitive play in favor of SHFFLing.

Due to the lack of L-canceling in Brawl and Smash 4, the SHFF is the closest substitute to SHFFLing in Melee.

To use this technique, the player must first do a short hop. He/she must then perform an aerial attack, and quickly fast fall.
