Luigi performing the move.

Luigi's up special move in Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo 64 is the Super Jump Punch, in which Luigi does a uppercut jump, similar to how he used to jump in the original Mario games. The moves controls are exactly the same as Mario's Super Jump Punch, but the damage and knockback statistics are much different. When sweetspotted, it turns into the Fire Jump Punch, dealing great damage at around 25%. When sourspotted, it deals one damage, only making the opponent flinch. This leaves Luigi much more vulnerable to attack. This move grants Luigi great vertical recovery distance, and is one of the best recovery moves in Smash 64. It can be used to avoid combos from opponents. Right before activating, if the opposite direction is pressed that Luigi is facing, he will go the opposite direction, which is useful for confusing and escaping opponents. On stages with platforms such as Yoshi's Island, this move may also be used so that Luigi lands on the platform, which leaves him significantly less vulnerable to subsequent punishing, as he doesn't get left helpless in the air for to long.
