Formerly known as "ElChibo", Chibo was tired of everyone online thinking he was Mexican, so he decided to add "Sempai" to his nickname in August of 2007. This decision was also puzzling, because the suffix of "sempai" is Japanese, while Chibo is not, thus furthering confusion. He now commonly goes by just CT Chibo or ChiboSempai in full. Crowds at tournaments will often chant his name during hype moments, or times when he's not even involved with or at the event.

ChiboSempai, also known as Chibo, is an American smasher from New Jersey who previously lived in Philadelphia for 5 years while attending Drexel University, where he started his Smash career.

Etymology

Formerly known as "ElChibo", Chibo was tired of everyone speaking Spanish to him in online games based on his name, so he decided to switch to "ChiboSempai" in August of 2007. He now commonly goes by just CT Chibo or ChiboSempai in full. Crowds at tournaments will often chant his name during hype moments, or times when he's not even involved with or at the event. This started after his on stage doubles performance with Leon at Apex 2012.

Background

An alumni of Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA is where Chibo spent his time playing Smash and training with others such as GOTM, Scar, Cactuar, and more. Chibo began as a Young Link and Mario main in SSBM, though soon switched to Samus as he advanced in competitive play.

Chibo was in the crew Titans of Smash with other players such as GOTM, MexiMadnez. Since the creation of the crew, he has recruited plenty of good players and friends such as AlexanderTriad, Vex Kasrani, and TenNoTensai. The crew lived on for many years, stretching from Melee back in 2007, up through multiple years after the release of Brawl. The crew eventually grew quite large, with many members split between the Philadelphia and South Jersey areas. His affiliation is now with CLASH Tournaments.

Chibo has been a fan of the Smash series for a long time, dating back to Smash 64, however he did not get into the tournament scene until November of 2006. He is a huge proprietor of all Smash games, and actively keeps up in the tournament scenes and creates content for every Smash game. Besides Smash, he is quite skilled at many other games, and once held the speed run world record for the 16 Star category in Super Mario 64. He previously owned a website called Following Revolution - a gaming news that also hosted a podcast, and is now the owner and founder of CLASH Tournaments.

CLASH Tournaments

In 2011 Chibo decided to bring all of his efforts in the community with tournament organizing and live streaming under the common name "CLASH Tournaments". As time went on, CT became more focused specifically on live streaming and media production, and the sponsoring of players, though Chibo still works as tournament organization staff for many events, such as Apex Series. The first players sponsored by CLASH Tournaments were Mew2King and ZeRo, as a way for Chibo to take his profits from CT and give back to the community, and enhance the image of our professional players. CT is now a leading media provider for the Smash community, as Chibo often travels the country on a near weekly basis to stream events.

Sponsorships

Besides being the owner of CLASH Tournaments now, Chibo has been sponsored by two different teams previously - FYC eSports, and vVv Gaming. While he was an active professional player at the time (both sponsorships started in 2010) and commonly referred to as one of the best ROB mains in Brawl, Chibo also joined these organizations for his skills in tournament organization and media production, as a means of getting exposure for these companies. Chibo is known to say that skill isn't the only factor in becoming sponsored, and feels he is proof of this, and often says this when people ask him for advice on becoming sponsored. Before the departure of Smash from vVv Gaming, Chibo was their Brawl Division Manager.
