Captain Falcon performing a shield-stop in Brawl.

A shield-stop is using the shield to stop a dash animation immediately. This is particularly useful for running into the opponent when it is expected of the opponent to attack the player. This will then shield the attack and open up the opportunity to shield grab, SHFFL, punish, etc. Its a useful mindgame so long as its not abused to the point of predictability.
