The grass stage of Pokémon Stadium has many grassy and wood-based floors.

In the Super Smash Bros. series, terrain is basically the type of soil that a platform is made up of. Terrain can be in different colors and textures, and produce different footstep noises when characters step on them. Unlike different types of platforms, the type of terrain does not affect how characters can pass through a platform. Outside of cosmetics, terrain only has an effect on traction and the speed and the frequency of Pikmin that Olimar plucks:

  • Purple and White Pikmin are rarer on basic, earth-based, and plant-based floors.
  • Red Pikmin are more likely to appear on cloth and sandy floors, and unable to appear when plucked in water.
  • Blue Pikmin are more likely to be plucked in water and water-based floors (such as ice, snow, and clouds), and the floors of Mario Bros.
  • Yellow Pikmin are more likely to appear on metal and sandy terrain.
  • Purple Pikmin are the only Pikmin to appear on Home-Run Stadium, and are more likely to appear in Subspace.
  • White Pikmin are more likely to be plucked on snow-covered terrain, as well as in Subspace.
