A friend icon is the image that appears next to a player's name in the Friend Roster of the With Friends option when playing on Wi-Fi. There are 77 different Icons, excluding Miis. The default Friend Icon, and the Icon that appears next to the names of unregistered players is the symbol of a figure in a circle. Icons must be unlocked in a certain way (such as unlocking their respective characters).
Icons include:
- 1 symbol of a figure in a circle
- 21 series symbols
- 43 character icons, including Pokémon Trainer, his Pokémon, and Zero Suit Samus
- 5 common enemies from the Subspace Emissary
- 11 bosses, including the Ancient Minister
- Symbols of Miis saved on the Wii console
