NorCal Tournament was a series of Melee tournaments in Northern California. The installments in the series have seen some of the largest crowds since the Tournament Go series. The tournaments mainly featured smashers from California, but also included players from out of state, and even included Japan's S-Royal in one tournament.

Entry Fees

Singles: $15 per person

Teams: $10 per team

Tournament Rules

  • Double Elimination
  • All matches are best of 3, with finals best of 5.
  • 4 stock, 8 minute limit
  • Items will be OFF

The 129 entrants were seeded into 16 pools, the top 2 of whom advanced to a 32-man professional bracket.

Stages:

  • Stages limited to the 6 neutral stages for random, others open for counterpicks.
  • Neutral stages: Final Destination, Battlefield, Yoshi's Story, Fountain of Dreams, Dreamland 64, Pokemon Stadium.
  • Stages banned:' Hyrule Temple, Fourside, Flatzone, Mushroom Kingdom, Venom, Brinstar Depths, Icicle Mountain, Yoshi's Island 64, Big Blue and Termina Bay.
  • Loser may choose the next stage or elect to go random.
  • Winner may change characters.
