YouTube is a website, created for the purpose of sharing and viewing videos on the Internet. While first founded by three PayPal employees, it is now under ownership of Google, LLC.
Overview
YouTube's two main purposes are to allow users to upload videos they have made, no matter what they consist of, onto the Internet, where people are universally able to view them. These users can also comment on these videos, rate them using the Like and Dislike system, and share the video via social networking sites. YouTube also has a messaging system for users to contact one another, and users can even make money from their videos, should they earn YouTube partnership, and monetize their videos.
Relevance to the Super Smash Bros. series
YouTube has played a vital role throughout the history of the Super Smash Bros. series, as it is the primary place for glitches to be popularized over the Internet. YouTube users have also made instructional videos for aspects of the Super Smash Bros. games, such as how to perform certain techniques such as wavedashing and L-canceling, or how to complete game modes, such as the Subspace Emissary or Break the Targets. Other miscellanities include the uploading of the music of the Super Smash Bros. series, reviews, tralilers, speculative videos, and walkthroughs/Let's Plays of the Super Smash Bros. games.
YouTube is also one of the primary places to upload tournament battles or money matches to the Internet, and for others to watch them, and so, is a big influence on the competitive scene of the Super Smash Bros. series.
