Any insight into why this term was coined as the "wall" of pain? (the pain part is obvious enough).Zixor (talk) 22:13, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
- Because you can't move through it? - Gargomon251 (talk) 23:11, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
It's an offensive move though; you're usually pushing them back, right? Walls don't move, except for demon walls... Zixor (talk) 04:11, 20 July 2008 (UTC)
Perhaps because the opponent may be unable to get past it, like a wall? How did the term originate? Zixor (talk) 23:16, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
characters and technique
It is my feeling that a WoP, when broken down, is simply the act of moving forward in the air, attacking, and then moving backward. As far as I'm concerned, everything else is just nit-picking.
As the aticle states, Jigglypuff is the best character at exploiting this technique, due to its high air manuverability and multiple jumps. However, any character who is able to perform this basic function of moving foward, attacking, and then moving backwards after the attack is essentially taking advantage of some form of this technique, are they not? The better a character is at moving backward (due to air manuverability, or multiple jumps), or the better their ability to perform it with greater frequency (more rapid succession), the better they are at this technique. -and you really don't even need multiple jumps to perform the WoP, do you? You can simply jump forward, attack, and then move backward, landing on the ground. It may or may not work better without landing, but this is still a form of the WoP.
It may be the case that some characters are virtually incapable of seeing any usefull results from employing this technique, as they simply can't move backwards far enough or qucikly enough, but these levels vary greatly. Without question, Jigglypuff is the only character who can perform the "true" and most effective Wall of Pain, but I feel that the general definition / application of this technique needs to be broadened. - No one has an opinion about this, huh?
- Obviously, the WoP is an issue with much debate; and I feel that matters of opinion (degrees of effectiveness, etc...) should be discussed and hammered out here before changes are made to the article. Otherwise people are bound to disagree and engage in edit wars. Zixor (talk) 23:14, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
- There is more to a wall of pain than jumping over the edge, attacking and jumping backwards. That's just edge-guarding. Wall of pain is where you jump off the edge and use aerials to create a defense that they cannot get past at all as opposed to what you suggested which is an attempt to move the person farther from the edge with a single aerial. The more jumps you have, aerials, and air-maneuverability all contribute to how good your wall of pain is. All in all it's how long you can stay out there, how much damage/knockback you can do, and how successfully you can block off the opponent's chance of escaping, therefore Jigglypuff is definitely the best.highway pumpy sfs 19:43, April 6, 2010 (UTC)
- -Very good points. You should definitely elaborate on this in the article :)
Ok thats it.
I'm sick and tired of these edit wars over the WOP article and I'll gladly point out some of them.
- R.O.B WOP or not?(Robo burner)
- Jerucho real name or not?(For Metaknight's version)
- A heck of a lot more(too many to explain)

R.O.B's Robo Burner doesn't make an effective WOP, for he doesn't have decent horizontal recovery, and Robo Burner would soon run out of charge. But, I'm not a R.O.B player, so correct me if I'm wrong. PokeLuver (talk) 16:18, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
