Event match 1: Trouble King is the first event match in Super Smash Bros. Melee. As Mario, the player must win a 2 stock match against a CPU Bowser on Battlefield, and there is no time limit. When the match starts, the player spawns above the centre of the low, large platform, and Bowser spawns above the topmost platform. Bowser is given a large handicap and his AI is of a low level.

This event has somewhat of a successor in Event 42: Trouble King 2, and a further follow-up in Super Smash Bros. Brawl with Event 1: Two Trouble Kings.
