An announcer (also known as a referee, and located under "Narration" in Sound Test) is a person and a feature that tells you when the battle will start, when the match ends, tells you the character's names when you select one, etc. The voice varies depending on which game from the Super Smash Bros. series that you are playing with. (For example: If you're playing Super Smash Bros. Brawl, then Pat Cashman would say the phrase that will officially start the match in Versus Mode: "3, 2, 1... GO!")
