The Ancient Minister is a major antagonist appearing in The Subspace Emissary, the single player mode of Super Smash Bros. Brawl. He commands the Subspace Army, and plans to pull the world into Subspace, which is apparently a form of nothingness. He uses the Subspace Bomb to do this, as the weapon will devastate anything in the area. His face cannot be seen, only his eyes (in a similar fashion to Sir Grodus from Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door), and doesn't appear to have arms or legs. The bottom part of his body looks mechanical, as several blinking mechanical lights can be seen. The Ancient Minister seems to have control over the Halberd. As the story progresses, it is revealed that he is actually being controlled by Ganondorf, who is in turn controlled by Master Hand, who is being controlled by a mysterious blue figure known as Taboo. Near the end, he regrets his evil-doing and tries to stop the R.O.B.'s from activating the Subspace bombs. After seeing this, Ganondorf orders him to be terminated. They fire at the Minister, which sets him on fire. A few minutes later, it is revealed that the Ancient Minister himself is a R.O.B.

Ready to shed his slaved past, R.O.B. joins the heroes for the rest of the adventure, hoping to undo what he was forced to do.
