Character description
Meta Knight's first appearance was in the 1993 video game Kirby's Adventure, where he was portrayed by a two-dimensional sprite. In some games, Meta Knight has been conveyed by a three-dimensional computer-generated image.
Meta Knight is a major character in the Kirby video game series developed by HAL Laboratory.  Kirby's Adventure was his first appearence, although Meta Knight was not given a name until Kirby's Avalanche, released in 1995. He is a mysterious character that is seen as both a hero and a villain in the series.

Meta Knight's name was not revealed in North America until 1995 in the game Kirby's Avalanche for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. Since then, Meta Knight has been featured in other video games from Nintendo, on Nintendo's merchandise, in comic books, and in the Kirby cartoon series.
Meta Knight's mask breaks almost every time Kirby defeats him, revealing a Kirby-like face underneath. His mask gives the wearer's eyes a yellow-ish tint; it makes Meta Knight's white eyes yellow & Kirby's blue eyes green, as revealed by various Kirby games and a DOJO!! update.

His mysterious nature has led to him playing more of a "friend or foe" role and less of an actual playable character throughout the Kirby series.

Meta Knight's Final Smash is called Galaxia Darkness. He swings his cape in the direction he is going in. If it misses, nothing happens. But if it hits, the whole field gradually gets covered in darkness. Then Meta Knight's cape attacks any character in the stage.

As a trophy

Meta Knight features as a collectible trophy, unlocked as one of the 100+ trophies that can be collected randomly during normal play, such as in the Trophy Lottery and throughout the various Single-player Regular Matches (though it will only be available to start appearing after the player has played over 200 Vs mode matches). The trophy reads as follows:

The mysterious head of the Meta-Knights, he wields his sword with dignity. He delivered his sword to Kirby and demanded single combat in show of his knightly honor; his strict adherence to his code of ethics makes him a rarity in Dream Land. Sometimes he throws off his cape in battle. it occasionally transforms into wings. (Kirby Super Star 9/96)

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Main article: Meta Knight (SSBB)

Meta Knight is a confirmed character in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, wielding his sword, the Galaxia. He attacks with mach-speed sword swipes, and has multiple jumps, similar to Kirby and Jigglypuff, although there are some differences in the way that, like Pit, Meta Knight uses his wings rather than puffing up. Also like Pit, Meta Knight has the ability to glide. He is one of the more notable newcomers in Brawl, as he was the first new character to be revealed. Many fans consider him liable to be a high-tiered character.

It is unknown if Meta Knight's mask will be removable in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Kirby wears Meta Knight's mask when he copies his ability, as well as being given tiny bat wings.
