Donkey Kong is a 1981 arcade game where Mario and Donkey Kong made their first appearances. In it, Donkey Kong is trashing a construction site and stealing a girl named Paulina. Mario has to stop D.K. and save her. You start at 25 meters above the surface, then move to 50 meters, then 75 meters, and finally 100 meters with each one increasing in difficulty. If Mario grabbed a hammer he would smash everything in his way. In super Smash Brothers Brawl, this game makes an appearance as the 75m stage. The stage reflects this game's "crawl your way to the top" gameplay style and simplistic 8-bit graphics.
Donkey Kong is also playable as a 'Masterpiece' game in SSBB, though it is altered from it is somewhat altered from the original. The game starts out with the 75m stage featured in SSBB.
Trivia
- In all Super Smash Bros. games, Donkey Kong and Mario are playable characters.
- This is the first game to feature Mario (then known as "Jumpman"). he is a carpenter in this game. Mario makes the career change to being a plumber later in the series.
- It is noted by Otacon during his conversation with Snake during a fight vs Donkey Kong that this Donkey Kong is actually Cranky Kong in his younger years.
- The girl Mario (Jumpman) has to save is actually named Pauline.
