Disney: Difference between revisions
(So turns out Disney will actually be publishing that upcoming Illusion Island game (Source: https://www.nintendo.com/store/products/disney-illusion-island-switch/ ), so this statement probably isn't that accurate anymore. Even the point of them being the only licensor is rather murky when you have Sega, who refuses to publish new installments of their IPs and licenses them off to other publishers instead (Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX, Shenmue III, Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap remake, etc.).) |
(So after a bit of research, I have found that the playing cards were actually released in the 60s; Nintendo simply acquired the license in 1959. Unfortunately, the date these cards released seems to be lost to time, and since they also released board games and other stuff during the 60s, it's hard to determine if the cards were really their first collaboration, so gonna have to rewrite this. The Walt Disney Company (often shortened to simply Disney) is an American multinational entertainment and media conglomerate headquartered at the Walt Disney Studios complex in Burbank, California. Mickey Mouse, a cartoon character created in 1928 by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks, serves as the official mascot of the company.
Disney was originally founded on October 16, 1923, by brothers Walt and Roy O. Disney as the "Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio"; it also operated under the names "The Walt Disney Studio" and "Walt Disney Productions" before officially changing its name to The Walt Disney Company in 1986. The company established itself as a leader in the American animation industry with animation like Steamboat Willie in 1928, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1937, The Little Mermaid in 1989, and Toy Story (through Pixar) in 1995. Disney has since diversified into live-action film production, television, theme parks, consumer products, and many other ventures, as well as expanding these ventures through various acquisitions, including The Muppets (from The Jim Henson Company), Pixar, Marvel Entertainment, Lucasfilm, and 20th Century Studios (formerly 20th Century Fox). A full list of assets owned by The Walt Disney Company can be found here.
In Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Mickey Mouse and Mickey and Donald, both Game & Watch games based on the eponymous Disney characters, are listed in the Chronicle in all regions. Three additional games are also included exclusively in the Japanese version, those being the Nintendo 64 version of Mickey's Speedway USA, Disney's Magical Quest Starring Mickey and Minnie, and Disney's Magical Mirror Starring Mickey Mouse.
In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Sora, the protagonist of the Kingdom Hearts franchise, developed by Square Enix as a joint collaboration between them and Disney, was confirmed on October 5, 2021 to be the sixth and final fighter in the Fighter's Pass Vol. 2, and the final Super Smash Bros. Ultimate fighter in general. Sora, along with Hollow Bastion, 10 music tracks and 13 total spirits released for purchase on October 18th, 2021 (October 19th in some time zones). Despite Disney neither developing nor publishing the Kingdom Hearts games, they are the sole owner of the brand and all of its original assets, leading to them being the company credited with Sora's inclusion.
The silhouette of Mickey Mouse's head, one of Disney’s most recognizable symbols and trademarks, can also be seen as a keychain on Sora's Keyblade.
