Groudon (グラードン, Gurādon) is a fictional creature in the Pokémon media franchise.

Creature description

Groudon is a massive legendary Pokémon appearing as a red reptilian behemoth with patterned plate arrangement. As it is said in the Pokédex, it is viewed by mythology as either the creator of the land or the being responsible for its expansion into the sea. It is also viewed as having saved people who were suffering from terrible floods, and is said to have engaged in a cataclysmic years-long battle with Kyogre, afterwards taking to sleep. Mythology aside, Groudon slumbers submerged in underground magma, and is said to make volcanoes erupt on awakening. It has the power to scatter rain clouds and make water evaporate with light and heat.

Groudon is a legendary Pokémon that made its debut in the 3rd Generation games Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire for the Game Boy Advance. Groudon, a massive bipedal lizard-like titan composed of rocky matter, is the "cover mascot" of the Ruby Version and the opposing counterpart to the Sapphire Version's cover mascot Kyogre. Groudon's special ability in the Pokémon game is Drought, a special ability that creates intense sunlight. Groudon is often associated with Team Magma. Groudon went to sleep in magma deep below the surfaces of Hoenn after a battle with Kyogre.

As a Poké Ball Pokémon

Super Smash Bros. Brawl is the first Super Smash Bros. game to include Groudon, as Groudon didn't exist when the first two games were made. When summoned from a Poké Ball, the titanic Groudon appears and uses Overheat, covering itself with a fiery aura, heavily damaging all opponents of the summoner that come into contact with it, even though it stands idly. Its size makes it hard to avoid when it first appears. He is about equal in size to Giga Bowser.
