Controversy
Following the conclusion of the first tournament's first day, HugS[1] and The Crimson Blur[2] noted their disappointment towards the casters for taking up the casting position for the tournament; the disappointment stemmed from Nintendo's lack of support for the scene and the shutdown of tournaments such as The Big House Online. Their comments caused controversy, with players picking at HugS's statement that compared the situation to "crossing the picket line," as well as The Crimson Blur's alleged hypocrisy. Several users, including one of the casters, VikkiKitty, also defended the casters' decision, claiming that they were only doing their jobs as freelancers, and that they shouldn't be prevented from doing so simply because the community was unhappy.[3]
Trivia
- During game two of Toonfink Vs Aaron, The online server disconnected entirely and the Battle Arena was forced to shut down[4]. Many took this as an opportunity to complain about Ultimate's poor netcode, pointing out that Nintendo themselves are not immune to these major issues and how they plan to have a price increase for their online service despite not fixing said issues.
