Riptide is an upcoming supermajor for Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, being held in Sandusky, Ohio from September 10th-12th, 2021. In addition to Super Smash Bros., the event is also running tournaments for Rivals of Aether and Splatoon 2.
The event was originally intended to be ran from September 11th-13th, 2020, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was delayed to 2021.[1] A Project+ event was also planned, but was removed after receiving a message from Nintendo.[2]

Trivia
- Less than 4 hours after the tournament's announcement, the tournament reached its entrants cap,[3] locking out several notable players including HugS[4], varun[5], and Switch.[6] The speed at which the entrants cap was reached has since spawned a few jokes in the community. The registration from Riptide reopened on June 4th, 2021, with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate entrant cap increasing to 768, Super Smash Bros. Melee increasing to 512, and Project+ increasing to 256 entrants.[7]
