EarthBound: The War Against Giygas! (MOTHER 2 ギーグの逆襲, Mazā Tsū Gīgu no Gyakushū, lit. "Mother 2: Gyiyg Strikes Back") is a role-playing video game for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. While it is known as EarthBound in the United States, it is the second game in the Mother series. It was not released in Europe.

EarthBound is a sequel to the original Mother, a Famicom/Nintendo Entertainment System title released only in Japan. Mother and EarthBound are not directly connected. One of the only connections plotwise between the two is Giygas, the primary antagonist in both games, who was also significantly changed between the first and second games.

In Super Smash Bros.

Ness, the main character of Earthbound, is unlockable in the game.

In Super Smash Bros. Melee

Characters

Ness returns as a starter character in Melee.

Items

Mr. Saturn becomes an item. Which can be picked up and thrown for low damage.can also break enemies out of guarding

Stages

Onett, the first town from the game becomes a starter stage, complete with the meteor in the background and a runaway five truck. Curiously, the music is not from Earthbound, but from Mother. The metropolis of Fourside is unlockable after doing a certain amount of matches, it contains various skyscrapers and even a cameo from Porky Minch's helicopter. It's music is a soft rock version of the Fourside theme.
