Onix (イワーク, Iwāku, Iwark in Japanese language versions) is a fictional creature in the Pokémon media franchise.
Creature description
Onix resembles a long rock snake. Onix's whole body is made of rocks. Onix also has a rock horn on its head. Onix made its debut in Pokémon Red & Blue. Brock, the Pewter City gym leader, owned a level 14 Onix. Bruno, the second trainer of the Elite Four, also has two Onixes on his team. Onix can be found in the wild in caves like Mt. Moon and Victory Road. In Pokémon Diamond & Pearl, Roark also owns a level 12 Onix. In the anime, Brock, one of Ash's friends, owned an Onix. Brock would use his Onix when faced with a huge task. Onix gained an evolution named Steelix when the second generation of games came rolling around. A trainer could evolve Onix into a Steelix by giving Onix a Metal Coat to hold and trading it to another trainer.
In Super Smash Bros.
As a Poké Ball Pokémon
Onix makes its debut as a Pokémon that comes out of a Poké Ball in Super Smash Bros.. Onix uses Rock Throw as its attack. Onix will jump to the top of the screen and release rocks from its body. The rocks will start falling down on the stage. Any character that makes contact with the rocks will take damage. Onix's attack does not harm the summoner.
In Super Smash Bros. Melee
As a stage element
A life-sized balloon of Onix (in actuality the 3D model of Onix used in Pokémon Stadium for Nintendo 64) is one of the many floating and bending "platforms" that comprise the Poké Floats stage. It is the second platform balloon to appear, right after Squirtle, and all matches on this stage have Onix making its appearance as a temporary flat platform similar to Final Destination.
