Spirits are collectible items introduced in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, replacing collectible trophies from past games. Like trophies, spirits represent various characters, items, and other elements from the many games released by Nintendo and other franchises. They can be equipped to fighters to grant stat boosts and secondary abilities, similar to both stickers and equipment in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Smash Bros. 4.
In the base version of Ultimate there were 1297 spirits that could be obtained. Through updates and events many more spirits were added. In the case that new spirits are added to an already represented universe, they are listed with their respective universe with a plus (+) followed by the amount added.
