Goldeen (トサキント, Tosakinto in original Japanese language versions) is a Pokémon that comes out of a Poké Ball.
Appearance
Goldeen has the appearance of a goldfish. The top of her body is redish-orange while the lower half is all white. She has red lips that resemble the lips of a female human being. She has a horn on her head that can perform attacks in other Pokémon games.
Function
Goldeen appears as a Pokémon in all three games. Goldeen's attack is identical in all of them: Splash. She flops around on the stage helplessly until she dissapears or has fallen off the stage. She is one of the three harmless Pokémon besides Mew and Celebi. Goldeen does not have any hitboxes; none of her attacks give damage to any of the characters. Goldeen's attack does not harm any character. Goldeen's role however should not be confused with her role in the other Pokémon games. In the other Pokémon games Goldeen possesses more attacks. The Pokémon Magikarp would match Goldeen's role in the Smash games perfectly, as it can only use Splash for quite some time. It has been confirmed that Goldeen will appear out of a Poké Ball in the game Super Smash Brothers Brawl. Goldeen's act remains identical to her attacks in the previous games.
Goldeen's inability to do anything other than flop around seems to be a reference to the second episode of the Pokémon television series, where Misty summons a Goldeen in a battle with Team Rocket, only to have it flop around due to the lack of water.
The one-hit KO rumor
Rumors have flown around the Internet, claiming that under certain conditions, Goldeen will activate Horn Drill and instantly KO an opponent. Although this has never been completely proven or disproven, most people accept it as false, due to a lack of evidence.
