*The redesigns used for the svg versions of several of these are, in many cases, direct and significant downgrades to my eyes that would damage the icons' usability. I seriously dislike the svg versions of Check Mark, Data, Disambig, Indeterminate, Merge, Move, Photo, Speculation, Split, Unnotable, and X Mark; they are in most cases harder to clearly understand at a moment's glance, especially at small sizes. I strongly encourage you to scrap as many of the redesigns on that list as you're willing to. *:XMark was ripped from TF2 and Checkmark was derived from it, they've been on my "kill" list for years. Disambig and Split were changed in order to not have square silhouettes amongst all the circles; Merge was changed to match style with Split. Data was changed because it's harder to control text between browsers than symbols in SVGs, and converting all that text into paths would be fairly expensive (same reason the fancy curly letters were dropped from the policy scrolls). Speculation was changed to not be so similar to LowQuality (and, at least locally for me, it rendered quite differently in various browsers). Move is being reconsidered as above. I get the complaint about Photo and might make it symmetrical or change it back, not sure yet. As for Indeterminate and Unnotable, I don't see your beef with them, and would need more feedback than "no" to change anything. *Probably just a pet peeve, but I don't really like the Metal Gear exclamation point in the warning icon. Considering the unique "traits" of all the other icons this just feels out of place, and will probably feel even more out of place if one of the icons ends up having a unique question mark....though I'm pretty sure this was intentional and and thus not worth that much complaining about. I like Nymbare's idea of the newbug icon being a "squashed bug" (my initial feeling when the icon was first proposed was to use the original icon for bugfix for newbug, while giving bugfix a flyswatter icon, though I never commented this when newbug was first proposed because I thought it was a bit silly); I partially agree with Serpent King with giving the move icon an arrow (though I'm torn on making it curved or straight), but maybe making the two colors more distinct would suffice; and pretty much everything Aidan said about the speculation icon (not a fan of the semitransparency even if its going to be on a colored background nearly all the time). - [[User:EndGenuity|EndGenuity]] ([[User talk:EndGenuity|talk]]) 00:03, July 27, 2019 (EDT) | |||

Implementation
If anyone has any technical issues with the SVGs on this page, speak now (and explain what your browser is). Otherwise, I plan to do a changeover not long from now. Toomai Glittershine The Riotous 18:25, 3 July 2015 (EDT)
- I'm not really concerned about the technical issues, but I will note that in some cases neither the svgs or pngs exactly match the game version (compare the modern Metroid logo's detail-work, for example). Hardly critical, but I figured now was the time to say it if anything. Miles (talk) 18:35, 3 July 2015 (EDT)
- Now would indeed be the time to bring that kind of thing up; I want to get the SVGs as accurate as possible given the at-times-limited resources. Please point out any specific areas you don't think match correctly. Toomai Glittershine The Incomperable 18:40, 3 July 2015 (EDT)
- It's really only minor stuff like line thickness (specifically in the jagged S shape). I'm also not totally sure about the spacing between the "screens" of the DS logo. Miles (talk) 18:49, 3 July 2015 (EDT)
- Well the DS logo I took directly from the SVG at the top of the DS's Wikipedia page, so if it's not perfect to the Smash Bros. version I guess we'll have to pick in which direction we want to be wrong. I'll take a look at the Metroid symbol's line thickness. Toomai Glittershine The Zesty 10:59, 6 July 2015 (EDT)

- I honestly find the svgs to be better in quality than the pngs; but that's just my opinion. Dots (talk) The Barrel roll 18:56, 3 July 2015 (EDT)
Okay so I carefully went over the Metroid and DS symbols, comparing to the SSB4-3DS texture rips (same 256x256 resolution). I don't see any appreciable differences in the Metroid symbol, but the DS symbol is basically completely different: line thickness, corner radius, spacing, and dimensions are all majorly different. I presume that as a Smash Bros. wiki we should be using the Smash Bros. version as opposed to the "official" version, so I'll change that one. About the PNG versions
Are they still needed? They are used on some pages other than this (mostly PM or userspace), but if the SVG versions are now fully implemented and functional the PNG ones just clog up the Series symbols category. --Menshay (talk) 08:43, 5 January 2016 (EST)
Wiki icons discussion
Alrighty now that all the "glossy Smash Bros. symbol"-based wiki icons are converted, I'll give people some time to talk it over before the change goes through.
First of all:
- "You're missing [this icon]." I know. Either it's planned for later because it's of a fairly different type, or it's planned for deletion outright.
- "You've changed the name/style of [this icon]." Indeed, that's intentional. This is partly a "make overdue changes" project as well as a ".png -> .svg" project.
Now that I've cut off the obvious, you can make other observations in the sections below. Toomai Glittershine The Superlative 21:44, July 26, 2019 (EDT)
Can you change [this icon]?
Post here why you don't like an icon (colour, symbol, etc) and I'll have a look.
- The "X mark" icon seems a bit inconsistent with the .png version since it looks tilted. If the X wasn't tilted, it would look better. Also, it's a bit of bias but the colors for the current "bugfix" icon make the icon more noticeable, whereas the new .svg don't make the icon stand out more due to the flatter colors. That's all, honestly. Beep (talk) 22:02, July 26, 2019 (EDT)
- The X icon matches the tilt of the checkmark and indeterminate icons. Buff/bugfix similarity will be looked at. Toomai Glittershine The Chronicler 23:23, July 26, 2019 (EDT)
- Move icon should have the arrow still so that it looks like a move mark. I get what you are going for, but it just looks like 2 squares. SerpentKing 22:04, July 26, 2019 (EDT)
- Something will be done; not sure yet if I'll just increase contrast and add a border, or add back a new arrow (if so it'll be more like an arrow than a picket). Toomai Glittershine The Chronicler 23:23, July 26, 2019 (EDT)
- Three things:
- I prefer the old disambiguation icon; it looks cleaner.
- The bugfix icon could be a more distinct color from the buff icon for better clarity.
- Echoing Serpent's sentiment, I prefer the old move icon; the arrow symbol should be less subtle on the new one.
- Besides that, they look great. ~ Serena Strawberry (talk) 22:07, July 26, 2019 (EDT)
- The intent of the new disambig was to make its outline less like a square because everything else is a circle. Toomai Glittershine The Chronicler 23:23, July 26, 2019 (EDT)
- These are looking really good and ought to be an immediately noticeable improvement, but I am going to have to parrot Serena's comment on the bugfix icon (or was she parroting me?? idk we're all parrots on this blessed day) Again, it could just be me being colorblind but it's very easy to confuse the two especially considering the similar contexts in which they are used. Maybe a light gray icon with a more yellowish bug. Potentially replace the bug with a splatter or the head of a flyswatter as a way (if not a particularly subtle one) to communicate the bug has been 'squashed'. Looks really nice aside from that Nymbare and his talk 22:12, July 26, 2019 (EDT)
- I'll probably change buff's green instead of bugfix's yellow. Toomai Glittershine The Chronicler 23:23, July 26, 2019 (EDT)
- Even disregarding how my CSS makes it look weird, I think the new design of the speculation icon takes away from the design on a flat white background, because a lot of the transparency is made redundant on a flat white background. I think the question mark from the old unnotable icon could be repurposed for speculation. Aidan, the Rurouni 22:22, July 26, 2019 (EDT)
- Consider that the speculation icon will appear in its tag template rather than on a white background. I see what you mean though. Using a "?" isn't a bad idea, will think about it. Toomai Glittershine The Chronicler 23:23, July 26, 2019 (EDT)
- The redesigns used for the svg versions of several of these are, in many cases, direct and significant downgrades to my eyes that would damage the icons' usability. I strongly encourage you to scrap as many of the redesigns on that list as you're willing to. Miles (talk) 22:37, July 26, 2019 (EDT)

Post here if you have an idea for a new icon and I'll consider it. An example would be splitting a "new bug" icon off of the "bugfix" icon.
