Jotaro Stands Proud!
—Introduction Tagline

Jotaro (承太郎, Jotaro) is a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. He was announced on April 1, 2019 in a Nintendo Direct aired the same day. He is classified as fighter #72.

His respective voice actors from the Stardust Crusaders anime, Matthew Mercer in English and Daisuke Ono in Japanese, reprise their roles here, with Patrick Seitz and Daisuke Ono performing Star Platinum's attack cries in English and Japanese, respectively.

Attributes

Jotaro has a medium walking and dashing speed, comparable to that of Kirby and R.O.B.. He is a middle-heavyweight, having the same weight as Ryu and Ken. His air speed and air acceleration are low, however, as he never really fights in the air. His falling speed is around average, comparable to that of Donkey Kong and Wario.

Jotaro's Stand, Star Platinum, is incorporated into a few of his attacks, allowing for many approach options, and potentially punishes if the opponent does not take an appropriate action.

On-screen appearance

  • Jumps onto the stage, saying "Let's do this!" (いい加減にして!, Come on!)

Taunts

  • Up taunt: Jotaro grabs the brim of hat and says, "Give me a break." (やれやれだぜ。, What a pain.)
  • Side taunt: Jotaro crosses his arms and faces the screen.
  • Down taunt: Star Platinum comes out and strikes a pose.

Idle poses

  • Jotaro looks to his left, and then his right.
  • Jotaro's hat briefly covers his face before he pulls it back up.

Victory poses

  • Jotaro turns toward the camera and pumps his fist down, keeping it there.
  • Star Platinum punches forward three times, before posing with Jotaro.
  • Star Platinum does its signature attack rush, yelling "ORAORAORAORAORAORA... ORA!". Star Platinum and Jotaro then stand idly.

Role in World of Light

As Jotaro is downloadable content, he does have a proper role in World of Light; instead, he is available when 20 characters have been freed from Galeem's control. If a preexisting save file meets these requirements, Jotaro will immediately be available for use upon loading it.

Spirits

Jotaro's Fighter Spirit can only be obtained in the shop for 500 coins, as he does not have a Classic Mode route, and it only shows up when Jotaro has been downloaded. Unlocking Jotaro in World of Light allows the player to preview the spirit below in the Spirit List under the name "???". As a Fighter Spirit, it cannot be used in Spirit Battles and are purely aesthetic. Each Fighter Spirit has an alternate version that replaces them with their artwork in Ultimate.
