Down aerial (abbreviated "dair"/"d-air"/"DAir" or "ADA") is an aerial attack that is performed by pressing the A button and down on the control stick. Many down aerials are also spikes.
Notable down aerials include:
- Fox's down aerial, notorious for its use in his infinite combo.
- Falco's down aerial, a fast spike with high range vital to Falco's pillar.
- Link's and Young Link's down aerial is a very powerful attack which sends the enemy upwards at the cost of having a lot of lag, even if the player uses a lag cancel. However, Young Link's down aerial can be a Meteor Smash if hit with the handle of the sword on the initial animation.
- Yoshi's down aerial, a very damaging move which can take up to 40% with its multiple kicks.
- Mario's, who is officially named Mario Tornado. (Brawl only)
- Lucario's, which immediately stops all momentum, making it good for recovery.
- Wolf's dair, which can spike.
- Shiek, Mr. Game and Watch, Zero Suit Samus, Sonic, Toon Link, and the Ice Climbers' down aerials, all of which (in Brawl) are Stall-Then-Fall aerials.
