Revenge (リベンジ, Revenge) is Incineroar's down special move in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Overview
Revenge is a counterattack. Unlike most counterattacks, Incineroar still takes damage, albeit at a reduced rate than normal (and knockback is completely negated), and the initial counterattack from Revenge is not particularly powerful, dealing fixed knockback. However, successfully countering a hit with Revenge uniquely powers up Incineroar's next move; as a visual indicator, Incineroar will emit a bright orange glow. The power-up goes away either after 60 seconds have passed, by taking 36% before using it, or from getting grabbed. When buffed, Incineroar's smash attacks get a Special Zoom effect much like other powerful attacks. Though Revenge has a naturally long duration, whiffing attacks reduces the total amount of time, with smash attacks and special moves having a five second penalty. The effect from Revenge is dependent on the move countered, and can be stacked depending on the move. Strong hits like Roy's forward smash maxes the effect out, while it would need 2 jabs from Roy to max it out.
It will work against Death's Scythe, but not if Incineroar's damage is too high. If Incineroar pulls off Revenge and then messes up the timing on Alolan Whip, it'll still be glowing.
Origin
Revenge is a physical Fighting-type move introduced in Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire. It forces the user to move last and has 60 base power, which is doubled if the user takes damage in the same turn before attacking. Incineroar can only learn it by Breeding.
Trivia
- Despite only being a Fighting-type attack, the initial counterhit from Revenge deals flame damage.
