Item vanish is a glitch that originated from Super Smash Bros. Melee, and it returned in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
The glitch is performed, sometimes by accident, when a character is on the ground and attempts to grab or catch a disappearing item. If the player presses a button to pick up an item with precise timing, the character is shown grabbing the item, yet it disappears before it can actually be grabbed.
