Pikachu (ピカチュウ, Pikachu) is a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. It was confirmed on June 12th, 2018.

Changes from Super Smash Bros. 4

Aesthetics

  • Change Pikachu always faces the screen regardless of which direction it turns. This affects its movesets as well, all of which appears to be mirrored.
  • Change Pikachu has received two new alternate costumes: one that has it wear Moon's hat from her official Pokémon Sun and Moon artwork, and the other based on Pikachu Libre. Both costumes are female versions of itself, and adequately change its tail to be heart-shaped, akin to female Pikachu in the main Pokémon games from Generation IV onwards.

Ground attacks

Aerial attacks

  • Change Pikachu has a new neutral aerial: it releases an electric surge around itself in an all fours stance with its tail pointing upward, which hits multiple times, much like Mewtwo's neutral aerial.
  • Buff Pikachu's down aerial can meteor smash opponents.[1]

Throws/other attacks

  • Buff Up throw deals more damage (4% -> 5.2%).[2]

Special moves

  • Change The electricity discharged when the lightning from Thunder strikes Pikachu is yellow rather than blue, and has Pikachu flash with a dark tint.
  • Buff Thunder is stronger.
  • Change Pikachu's Final Smash now involves it dashing quickly around the stage at different angles while surrounded in a ball of electricity (the latter trait akin to Volt Tackle), then launching opponents with an electric blast at the end of the move as the ball disappears. It is currently unknown if this is still Volt Tackle, or a new Final Smash.
