- This article is about Mario's appearance in Melee. For information about his SSB appearance, see here. For information about his Brawl appearance, see here. Also, for the Doctor character, see Dr. Mario.
Super Smash Bros. Melee marks Mario's second Smash Bros. appearance. He has also been announced as a character in Hal Labratory's up coming title, Super Smash Bros. Brawl.[1]
Mario (マリオ, Mario) is a character who has appeared in all three games in the Super Smash Bros. franchise. Mario, considered the "all-around" character (as he is in most games), is well-balanced with great close-range smash attacks and good long range, Mario currently ranks as Middle Tier. Mario debuted in Donkey Kong on the NES, and has been the main videogame mascot for Nintendo since.
Mario is available as a starter.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Can easily combo his opponents
- Great wave-dash
- The cape is useful for diverting enemy attack and recovery
- Can chainthrow fastfallers and a few other character.
- Has a projectile
- Good at juggling his opponents.
Cons
- Most of his KO's require a setup, and he does not have a reliable finisher
- Lacks range
- Has terrible grab range
Techniques
- Rising Tornado
- slide combo kill(when the other player(s)is in the 110 slide kick them than up A them and than if they don't die play tennis.)
- Full Jump to Dair to Uair - This move is a very good combo approach/start. Perform the drill early enough so the uair can be performed.
- Up-B Wall Jump - On Yoshi's Story, if you are sent off and dont think you can recover with the normal recovery of Mario ( Cape to Jump to Up-B ), use the Up-B as a normal jump towards the wall and Wall Jump, this move takes a bit of practice and is both usable in the NTSC and PAL version of Melee.
- Cape Edgeguard - When recovery of opponent is easy to predict use the cape to turn him around so that he doesn't return and so that he does the opposite. This technique is not appropiate for some Characters like : Sheik,Marth,Yoshi,Ness.
