Kansai 2016 used a similar tournament format as its predecessors: there were 8 Round-Robin pools with best-of-one 4 stock matches. Top 4 players in each pool advanced to a 32 player double elimination bracket, with winners being best-of-3 and losers best-of-one. Every smasher could only use one character for the entire tournament.

Kansai 2018 (or 11th Kansai) was a national Smash 64 tournament held in the Kansai region of Japan. There were 51 entrants, and a lot of matches including 2 pools and Top 8 were streamed live on Nico Nico and on Isai's stream.
