== The removal of those tournament placings == | |||
SW:SMASHER explicitly states that we record all verifiable tournament placings, with nothing I can see saying online tournaments are exempt, so isn't that basically breaching that policy? <span style="color:Green; text-shadow: 0px 0px 3px green">Disaster</span> <span style="color:Blue;text-shadow:0px 0px 3px blue">Flare</span> <span style="color:SkyBlue;text-shadow:0px 0px 3px skyblue">(talk)</span> 20:49, 9 July 2017 (EDT) | |||
:Online tournaments should generally only be added if they're high-profile. All offline tournaments with legitimate rules are fine. PokemonMasterJamal3 (talk) 20:51, 9 July 2017 (EDT) | |||
::But again, the policy states all verifiable tournament placings. It's a placing, it's verified, so I still don't see why they can't be there. That's my problem here. <span style="color:Green; text-shadow: 0px 0px 3px green">Disaster</span> <span style="color:Blue;text-shadow:0px 0px 3px blue">Flare</span> <span style="color:SkyBlue;text-shadow:0px 0px 3px skyblue">(talk)</span> 20:52, 9 July 2017 (EDT) | |||
:::Sounds like a case of the policy needing revised, because it would be completely ludicrous to include every single online tournament in these listings. <span style="font-family:Monotype Corsiva;font-size:12pt"><span style="color:#083;text-shadow:0px 0px 3px #0b7">Serpent</span> <span style="color:#ed0;text-shadow:0px 0px 3px #fd0">King</span></span> 20:54, 9 July 2017 (EDT) | |||

For what reason did you remove the tournament bracket link to Karisuma 13 and 14 on Edge's page? Are you planning on making tournament pages for those tournaments? Piledrivaaa (talk) 01:09, 16 July 2017 (EDT) | |||
:If someone removes a bracket and makes it a redlink, they do it because it deserves to have a page. Thanks for letting me know. I just added the 2GG Championship because I know a lot of people search the wiki in order to find out about upcoming tournaments. | |||
Isn't there only one slot still open? This isn't an exigent matter, but I feel they can already give a tier ranking and adjust it later if they see fit, like what was done with FE Saga. | |||
My ideas are not totally unequivocal though, it's just a thought. Apologies if I this is a nuisance, I'm just trying to be helpful. | |||

== News Template == | |||
Hey, thanks for letting me know about C-tier events. From the looks of it, B-tier and higher deserve top 3 results, correct? | |||
Since you seem a lot more knowledgeable about competitive Smash, I was wondering if you can answer these two questions. What determines whether a tournament is a regional or a super-regional? Also, what determines whether a non-Smash 4 event should have top 3 results or not. There doesn't seem to be a fancy list like PGR for the other games. Pokebub (talk) 03:09, 8 April 2018 (EDT) | |||
:Generally speaking, yes, only B-Tiers and above get mention in this regard. In this scenario, though, after thinking about it, I'm actually okay with top 3 for both games getting mentioned (since the only events were singles for both games and no doubles, plus Smash 4 had over 150 entrants). | |||
:In terms of super regionals/regionals, I feel like super regionals are typically for tournaments more stacked than your average regional, but not quite on the level of a national (although it can be subjective, of course). Competition from other regions can help in this regard, too. | |||
:As for non-Smash 4 games, since there isn't really a list like the PGR, it's usually safe to go with tournaments on the national tournaments page, although some tournaments like Pat's House 3 can be mentioned as well. :After looking at WaDi's PGR v5, I found all of the players ranked on PGR v5 that he beat: Darkshad (GENESIS 5), Locus x2 (Frostbite 2018 and Get On My Level 2018), Zinoto (Frostbite 2018), Lima x2 (King of the Springs 3 and EGLX 2018), ESAM x2 (EGLX 2018), Dabuz (Mason Versus: Mr. E), 6WX (Mason Versus: Mr E), and Mistake (Glitch 4). IDK, I just feel like some of his characters are somehow notable to me for whatever reasons, semi-notable or something, like his Cloud, Diddy and Falcon. ==Tech Republic IV== | |||
Why did you add Tech Republic IV to the news board? It's only a C-Tier, and didn't you state that generally we post B-tiers and over? Or is it because it's one of the biggest Ultimate tournaments in Europe? <span style="font-family:Times New Roman"><span style="color: red;">SugarCookie</span></span> <span style="font-family:Impact"><span style="color: green;">420</span></span> 15:08, 3 March 2019 (EST) | |||
:Yes @ it being the biggest tournament in Europe. Also, the PGR this season is determined by tournament size rather than how stacked they were. For example, Ultimate Nimbus is decently stacked, but it would only be a C-Tier because of its size. I think we can afford to be somewhat flexible until the first PGR is out if it's a stacked enough tournament. I don't think it would hurt to show everyone who made it out of pools, at least for Melee. I understand that with Ultimate it might be too unwieldy. :Generally speaking, it's relative to how stacked the event is (although size can also be a factor). - It's no problem! It's not really a written policy, it just becomes tedious to link players every time in a single section, so it's basically an unwritten rule to just link players once per section (including teammates in tournament results). Smasher notability[edit]
S'up. Regarding the new policies on certain smashers' notability, can you help us by adding reasons why players are notable if we don't end up finding them? For example, I saw 7 (Link player from possibly Florida), but have not found results. I could search in Smashboards but I do not have an account there, so it's not easy for me.
So if you could help, I would appreciate it very much. Thankies. -- Merry Christ... I mean, Happy Halloween from BeepYou... (talk) 19:58, 31 October 2016 (EDT)
idk if this is legit info or not[edit]
So I found out you added the Italian smashers category to Xzax's page. I would like to know if this is legit information. You also added the category as the primary region (primary regions are for place of birth). Do you know if Xzax is born in Italy or if this is speculation. That's all I would like to know. -- Happy Holidays, from Falcon-X 10:13, 30 November 2016 (EST)
- Xzax's Facebook says he's from Florence, Italy. He was very likely born there. PokemonMasterJamal3 (talk) 11:55, 30 November 2016 (EST)
- If I may, Jamal is highly respected here on the wiki for his competitive knowledge. I doubt something like this would have been added due to speculation. Aidan, the Jolly Dragon Warrior 11:59, 30 November 2016 (EST)
Redlinks[edit]
the purpose of these links is to link to a site. even if they have notable results (actually only Badr has notable results) it does not make sense to leave redlinks to link to a non existent site. people can still create the playersite and afterwards link players in other articles. also it just looks ugly on the site and gives it a unharmonic surface
--Hmm (talk) 23:35, 5 December 2016 (EST)
- The opposite is true. Redlinks are our way of knowing "hey, this page should be created". They are not really a bad thing. Serpent King 23:41, 5 December 2016 (EST)
getting top 48 at UGC is by far not a relevant result. UGC was stacked but only in the top echelon. the event had only 200~ entrants, so getting top 48 is not really a relevant placing and if you look at his run it shows even more why good "placings" at stacked but rather small tournaments is not equally to a notable performance!
his road to top 48 was 2:0 W against Miloni, 0:2 L against Scatt, 2:0 W against Tmacc, 3:1 W against Rython, 2:3 L against KID Goggles (he did not beat 1 notable player) --Hmm (talk) 20:03, 6 December 2016 (EST)
- Miloni is ranked 9th in Michigan and he took Goggles to Game 5. 200+ entrants also isn't terribly small, either. He's notable enough. On top of that, Joe Barrels is the owner of Events2Compete, one of the most influential organizations for competitive Smash in the Midwest, so he deserves a page regardless of his skill level. Nintendo tournament sponsorship category?[edit]
Given that we now know NoA is working with yet another major (Genesis 4), I was wondering if we should perhaps make a category to keep track of all such tournaments. Thoughts? Miles (talk) 12:35, 19 January 2017 (EST)
- Seeing as how there's been a decent amount of Nintendo-sponsored tournaments now (all EVOs from 2013 to 2016, Apex 2015, GENESIS 3 and 4, and The Big House 5; not sure if I'm missing any), I think it would be fine. PokemonMasterJamal3 (talk) 13:01, 19 January 2017 (EST)

- From what I've been able to find, he mainly seems to be an online player. (I can see videos of him from Battle on the Strip, Hero to ZeRo, UGC Online Open, etc.) I'm hesitant for him to have a page if he doesn't have at least some noteworthy offline results. If you could find some, though, it should be fine. PokemonMasterJamal3 (talk) 19:34, 3 February 2017 (EST)

Registration[edit]
This, This, and This. Maddox is a TO and I think he knows if it's closed or not. I know that smash.gg says that it's open, but I would take the word of the TOs over what it says. I think what also says it is that there were a ton of people registering yesterday (Probably around 40) but there haven't been any people registering since then. Brawl matchups[edit]
As someone who is more well-versed in this Brawl thing than I am, is the "current" matchup chart for Brawl still considered accurate, or have there been enough metagame changes since its publication that warrant it as outdated as our Melee matchup charts?
--- Monsieur Crow, Author Extraordinaire, 18:18, 23 June 2017 (EDT)
- Is it as outdated as Melee's? Definitely not, although I would say it's certainly inaccurate in some areas (such as MK being even with Pikachu, even though ESAM, the main person who pushed for it being even, now believes that Pikachu loses that matchup). Some of the matchups for ICs are also debatable. PokemonMasterJamal3 (talk) 19:10, 23 June 2017 (EDT)
Random character question.[edit]
Offhand, do you happen to know which characters in each game have won a national tournament? Was just thinking about this today. If you don't know, that's okay.
--- Monsieur Crow, Author Extraordinaire, 14:55, 8 July 2017 (EDT)
- In terms of surefire nationals:
- For Melee: Marth, Captain Falcon, Falco, Fox, Ice Climbers, Jigglypuff, Sheik, and Peach have all won nationals throughout the game's history.
- For Brawl: Meta Knight (duh), Snake, Diddy Kong, Wario, Falco, Zero Suit Samus, and Ice Climbers have all won MK-legal nationals.
- For Smash 4: Diddy Kong, Zero Suit Samus, Sheik, Mario, Marth, Rosalina, Cloud, Mewtwo, and Sonic have all won major tournaments. In terms of smaller nationals, Meta Knight, Villager, Fox, and Bayonetta have also won.
- For 64: Pikachu, Kirby, Captain Falcon, Fox, Jigglypuff, and Samus have all won nationals (half of the cast, basically). I may or may not be missing a few, as this is definitely the game I'm least knowledgeable about.
- I'm not sure if you want Project M or not, so I'll leave it be for now. PokemonMasterJamal3 (talk) 01:23, 9 July 2017 (EDT)
- I would be interested in PM, sure.
- For the Smash 4 characters, does your list include characters that have won with custom moves or no?
- Also, gee whillikers, Samus won a Smash 64 national? What a strange game.
The removal of those tournament placings[edit]
SW:SMASHER explicitly states that we record all verifiable tournament placings, with nothing I can see saying online tournaments are exempt, so isn't that basically breaching that policy? Disaster Flare (talk) 20:49, 9 July 2017 (EDT)
- Online tournaments should generally only be added if they're high-profile. All offline tournaments with legitimate rules are fine. PokemonMasterJamal3 (talk) 20:51, 9 July 2017 (EDT)
- But again, the policy states all verifiable tournament placings. It's a placing, it's verified, so I still don't see why they can't be there. That's my problem here. Disaster Flare (talk) 20:52, 9 July 2017 (EDT)
- (edit conflict) I agree with Jamal here. I feel like online tournaments don't properly test the capabilities of smashers owing to concerns over lag and other such issues, and I wouldn't be opposed to generally not including them on pages, even if they were major.
?[edit]
For what reason did you remove the tournament bracket link to Karisuma 13 and 14 on Edge's page? Are you planning on making tournament pages for those tournaments? Piledrivaaa (talk) 01:09, 16 July 2017 (EDT)
- If someone removes a bracket and makes it a redlink, they do it because it deserves to have a page. It's a PGR-qualified tournanent and I think all tournaments that qualify for PGR should have a page. I do plan to make those pages, yes. PokemonMasterJamal3 (talk) 02:17, 16 July 2017 (EDT)
Okay, I was just curious as to what your reasoning was. Thank you. Piledrivaaa (talk) 04:50, 18 July 2017 (EDT)

PGR V4[edit]
Thanks for letting me know. I just added the 2GG Championship because I know a lot of people search the wiki in order to find out about upcoming tournaments. Isn't there only one slot still open? This isn't an exigent matter, but I feel they can already give a tier ranking and adjust it later if they see fit, like what was done with FE Saga. My ideas are not totally unequivocal though, it's just a thought. Apologies if I this is a nuisance, I'm just trying to be helpful.

News Template[edit]
Hey, thanks for letting me know about C-tier events. From the looks of it, B-tier and higher deserve top 3 results, correct?
Since you seem a lot more knowledgeable about competitive Smash, I was wondering if you can answer these two questions. What determines whether a tournament is a regional or a super-regional? Also, what determines whether a non-Smash 4 event should have top 3 results or not. There doesn't seem to be a fancy list like PGR for the other games. Pokebub (talk) 03:09, 8 April 2018 (EDT)
- Generally speaking, yes, only B-Tiers and above get mention in this regard. In this scenario, though, after thinking about it, I'm actually okay with top 3 for both games getting mentioned (since the only events were singles for both games and no doubles, plus Smash 4 had over 150 entrants).
- In terms of super regionals/regionals, I feel like super regionals are typically for tournaments more stacked than your average regional, but not quite on the level of a national (although it can be subjective, of course). Competition from other regions can help in this regard, too.
- As for non-Smash 4 games, since there isn't really a list like the PGR, it's usually safe to go with tournaments on the national tournaments page, although some tournaments like Pat's House 3 can be mentioned as well. PokemonMasterJamal3 (talk) 09:35, 8 April 2018 (EDT)

WaDiRob[edit]
Are you sure WaDi loses with R.O.B more often than not? He still holds wins on Samsora, Fatality, Rags, 6WX, Manny, Pink Fresh, Seagull Joe , T and Myran. Actually he used R.O.B. quite a lot it is almost a co-main. GRAND DAD Fleenstones!? 02:06, 2 August 2018 (EDT)
- How many of those wins were in 2018 at tournaments that qualified for PGR? Please tell me in full detail where each of those wins took place. PokemonMasterJamal3 (talk) 03:33, 2 August 2018 (EDT)
- After looking at WaDi's PGR v5, I found all of the players ranked on PGR v5 that he beat: Darkshad (GENESIS 5), Locus x2 (Frostbite 2018 and Get On My Level 2018), Zinoto (Frostbite 2018), Lima x2 (King of the Springs 3 and EGLX 2018), ESAM x2 (EGLX 2018), Dabuz (Mason Versus: Mr. E), 6WX (Mason Versus: Mr E), and Mistake (Glitch 4). Every single one of these wins was with Mewtwo. I think it can be safely concluded that his R.O.B. is a secondary. PokemonMasterJamal3 (talk) 06:57, 2 August 2018 (EDT)

- As I said, your heart is in the right place, but there are things you should be careful about, like adding all of Ally's local characters to the notable players section of each of their respective pages. I think you have certainly made good edits in the past. PokemonMasterJamal3 (talk) 08:10, 27 August 2018 (EDT)
IDK, I just feel like some of his characters are somehow notable to me for whatever reasons, semi-notable or something, like his Cloud, Diddy and Falcon. Especially his Diddy has beaten players like Dabuz, Nairo, 6WX and NAKAT. But yeah maybe thats only 2015 notable and not notable now because pretty much after 2017, Ally don't really pull out secondaries at all (even in locals). I have a weird mind lol. Tech Republic IV[edit]
Why did you add Tech Republic IV to the news board? It's only a C-Tier, and didn't you state that generally we post B-tiers and over? Or is it because it's one of the biggest Ultimate tournaments in Europe? SugarCookie 420 15:08, 3 March 2019 (EST)
- Yes @ it being the biggest tournament in Europe. PokemonMasterJamal3 (talk) 18:01, 3 March 2019 (EST)
- Perfectly fine with me. SugarCookie 420 18:03, 3 March 2019 (EST)

Japan Player Rankings[edit]
Is it possible we can change it this time around? I honestly don't think Top 100 is that much overkill. Plus, it allows easier access to the part of the list most people don't really know about, and it makes it easier for users to update Power Rankings for players. CEO Dreamland[edit]
I don't think it would hurt to show everyone who made it out of pools, at least for Melee. I understand that with Ultimate it might be too unwieldy. What's the site policy on how many results to display vs the number of entrants btw? Lovedelic (talk) 11:51, March 14, 2020 (EDT)
- Generally speaking, it's relative to how stacked the event is (although size can also be a factor). With Melee having basically only 3 Top 50 players in attendance now (Hbox/n0ne/Gahtzu), I don't think going past Top 32 is necessary. PokemonMasterJamal3 (talk) 15:16, March 14, 2020 (EDT)
- Adding .00 when some of the other prizing is .50, .20, etc. looks so much cleaner and more professional imo. Do you wanna pull rank on this because I really think you're making a mistake. Lovedelic (talk) 20:09, March 14, 2020 (EDT)
- It feels like padding to add ".00" since the actual value of the money remains the same; the opposite is true for ".50" and such. Not attempting to pull rank, I just feel like it's not necessary at all. PokemonMasterJamal3 (talk) 20:51, March 14, 2020 (EDT)
