The Effect page with it's various sub-pages could use some sound clips of the noises made when attacks of those type connect. Now, this isn't unnecessary or filler in my opinion. This has pretty practical applications. I will attempt to demonstrate with some pretty dumb but hopefully insightful examples:
- *reading Slash* "Oh, Judge #4 is a slash attack? It's a freaking hammer, not a sword. I don't think so..." *listens to hitsound and subconsciously remembers since sounds are directly linked to most effects* "Oh, it is a slash attack, my b."
- "Ok, so Paralyze and Electric are different attacks? They seem really similar, how are they different?" *listens to the obvious difference in sound of the two effects* "They are different, I guess"
- "I forgot what it sounds like when I am hit with this attack... hrmmm..." *simply listens to conveniently placed hitsound of an attack with this effect* "Yeah, that's right!"
In all honesty, it's not like the effect articles are getting visited more than like twice a week by anyone other than contributors. It really doesn't concern anyone much I'm sure. But uploading files needs consensus and solid reasoning so. RobSir zx 23:29, 26 March 2016 (EDT)
- Well I think I've already made my opinion clear: this is unnecessary. We are not The Sounds Resources, and as such, battle sounds are not within our scope of inclusion. I understand what you are going for here, but really...text does the same thing except easier. Serpent King 23:01, 27 March 2016 (EDT)
Sorry but your fundamental premise is incorrect. Many Paralyze attacks use the Shock SFX. Ganondorf's down aerial is an electric attack with the Burn SFX. Young Link's and Toon Link's swords use the punch and kick sounds. Effect and sound many usually be linked, but trying to force this connection is a bad idea. - Whoops, I didn't look into it well enough at all. I said the examples were dumb. Anyway, being able to hear the effect as a sound besides just describing what it is with text (especially if the only factor of it being an effect is aesthetic) should be acceptable. Isn't it a valid argument that the victory themes and crowd chants would fall into this category? They are literally getting special treatment if other sounds can't be added as well, even if they are more significant. Yet at the same time I have found something else that would be troubling: There are different variations of most effect SFX for small, medium, and large respectively (sometimes more). I really just dunno at this point. RobSir zx 00:31, 28 March 2016 (EDT)
- "Effect as a sound" is the problem, as effects do not have sounds. There are common pairs of effect and sound, but there is no enforced relationship between the two entirely independent mechanics. What does Normal sound like? Would you use Punch or Kick? Dedede doesn't use either, he uses Thwomp. Jigglypuff has some that use Paper; Palutena has a bunch that sound like Magic zap. Every single one of these sounds is also used for a different effect somewhere in the game. It doesn't work. Toomai Glittershine The Zesty 10:48, 28 March 2016 (EDT)
