Link and Zelda team up to fight Ganondorf. The player is Link and the CPU-controlled teammate is Zelda, who aids the player with fighting Ganondorf, also a computer. If the player (Link) or Zelda is KO'd, the event match will end in failure, and the player will have to try again, which is why it is ideal for the player to attack Ganondorf with Zelda.
The player controls Link and must win a stock match against a CPU Ganondorf on the Temple stage. Link is joined by a CPU Zelda ally. The CPU Ganondorf's artificial intelligence is set at Level 8, while the CPU Zelda ally's artificial intelligence is set at Level 7.

By successfully completing the match, Ganondorf will appear as a challenger (if he is not unlocked already), and the player (as Link) will have to fight him on Final Destination. Once Ganondorf is defeated, he is unlocked and thus playable.
When the match starts, Link will spawn on the left side of the center of the stage, while Ganondorf will spawn on the topmost platform and Zelda will spawn on the right side of the stage. Link and Zelda will start with 1 stock while Ganondorf will start with 2 stocks. If either Link or Zelda is KO'd, it will result in a loss.

If Ganondorf has not already been unlocked, completing this event match will trigger another battle against Ganondorf, where defeating him will unlock him.

Event Match 29: Triforce Gathering is the 29th event match of the 51 event matches in Super Smash Bros. Melee.
