Odin (オーディン, Odin) is a summon from the Final Fantasy series.
Origin[edit]
Odin, based on the Norse god, is a recurring entity introduced in Final Fantasy III along with the Summon ability, who also made several reappearances in later games, often needing to be fought as a boss before being recruited. He attacks with his sword Zantetsuken (known as Steel Bladed Sword in Final Fantasy VII), causing Instant Death to targets not immune to it. In some games, enemies immune to instant death take heavy non-elemental damage instead (known as Gunge Lance in Final Fantasy VII).
In Final Fantasy VII, Odin's summon sequence when using Steel Bladed Sword involves him appearing on top of a mountain at night, then riding down on his horse Sleipnir and slashing the enemies three times, cutting them in half. The Odin Materia can be found within the Mansion in Nibelheim. Opening the safe upstairs (the code is Right 36, Left 10, Right 59, Right 97) initiates a fight with the Lost Number optional boss that changes form halfway the battle depending on if the player used physical or magical attacks on it. After defeating the monster the Odin Materia falls onto the floor.
In Super Smash Bros. 4 and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[edit]
As a stage element[edit]
Odin appears as one of the summons on Midgar. Once summoned, the stage darkens and Odin appears. A blue line appears in the middle of the stage, followed shortly after by a strong slash which deals 100% damage, and strong knockback. The stage is then split in half, but after a while it comes back together crushing any character caught into it. Odin's summoner is immune to the effects of the slash, but can still be crushed by the stage.
In Smash 4, Odin also appears as a Profile icon, unlocked with Cloud and Midgar.
