This page documents the update history of Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS. All additions, fixes and changes are grouped together by the update they were introduced. Some updates have corresponding Changelogs that can be accessed by clicking on the update itself. The changelogs record all gameplay adjustments introduced in the update, which are categorized by character and attached to a symbol that annotates the effect of the adjustment. A green symbol signals a definite buff. A red symbol signals a definite nerf. A blue symbol signals a neutral adjustment. A yellow symbol signals a relation to a glitch. The "Universal" category refers to adjustments to the game as a whole instead a single character. Note that release notes may only be available in Japanese; if so, they will be written and translated here.

1.0[edit]

1.0.0[edit]

The base game was released in Japan on September 12th 2014.

1.0.1[edit]

This update was released for Japan on September 12th 2014, the same day the game itself was released.[1]

1.0.2[edit]

This update was released for Japan on September 19th 2014.[1]

The update was later made available for the rest of the world on October 2nd, 2014, with notes that merge both the updates into one, make no mention of the bug explained in the Japanese text, and implies balancing changes that have otherwise been unnoticed by the playerbase:[2]

  • Enables online multiplayer features.
  • Adjustments have also been made to balance the game and make for a more pleasant gaming experience.

1.0.3[edit]

This update was released worldwide on October 27th, 2014. [2]

  • The current Conquest chart will no longer display percentages when Conquest Mode is active.
  • Adjustments have also been made to balance the game and make for a more pleasant gaming experience.

According to dantarion, the only changes made to the game were in interface and potentially the game structure itself - no changes were made to character mechanics.

1.0.4[edit]

This update was released November 17 or 18, 2014.[1] The announcement specified that local play, online play, and replays will not work between versions, and directly introduced changes to characters.

Ver. 1.0.4 [11/18/2014]
  • Adjusted the game balance by refining the strengths of some fighters.
  • Various fixes to improve gameplay.
[NOTICES]
  • Local Wireless will not work between old versions and 1.0.4.
  • Replays saved with previous game versions will no longer play after receiving this update.

1.0.5[edit]

This update was released worldwide on February 9th/10th, 2015.[3]

Official notes[edit]

  • Share mode has been added.
    • Users will be able to post photos, replay data, and Mii Fighter data to the official server to share with other users around the world. Users will also be able to search and download the content as well.
      • Users can only post their own content. Content posted to the server will be deleted after 30 days.
    • Users will be able to share and exchange photos, replay data, and Mii Fighter data with users on their 3DS Friend List.
      • Content will be received when the Nintendo 3DS is connected to the Internet
      • It may take some time to receive the data
      • Content uploaded to the server will be deleted from the server after 30 days.
    • Users will be able to post photos to Miiverse from within the game
      • Photos will be posted to the official Snapshot Sharing Community
  • amiibo functionality has been added to New Nintendo 3DS /XL
Users can tap their amiibo figure to the touchscreen to transform them into "figure players (FP)" to battle, train, and level-up their FP.
  • In order to let you play the game more comfortably, we have also fixed some issues.

Please note: Once users install the update data (Ver. 1.0.5), they will no longer be able to play local multiplayer with users without the update installed. Additionally, any replay data that was saved prior to the update will no longer be playable.
Users will be required to download this update prior to using the software's online multiplayer features.

Other changes[4][edit]

  • The Games & More and Online menus have been rearranged to fit the amiibo and Share options, respectively.
    • Like most other amiibo-related changes this update, the menu option will not appear on older 3DS models, so the Games & More menu remains unchanged on these systems.
  • The default setting for Solo Smash now has a single CPU opponent instead of two.
  • For Glory stats display average KOs and falls to two decimal places instead of zero.
  • The game manual can be accessed from the main menu.
  • amiibo-related Tips have been added to the game, as with the Wii U game.
    • These appear even on older 3DS models.
  • Certain custom moves, such as Link's Power Bow and Quickfire Bow, have been modified to fit and be on par with their Wii U counterparts.
  • The AI has been updated to match the Wii U version.
  • When the bridge in Gerudo Valley reforms after being broken, players are now given time to recover before the camera returns to the default position.
  • The C-stick, ZL button, and ZR button can navigate menus.
  • ZL and ZR are now coded to do the same functions as the R and L buttons, respectively. Prior to version 1.0.5, these buttons' functions were reversed, so ZL would trigger the same actions as L and ZR would trigger the same actions as R, though their functions outside of battle (such as in menus) were the same as in current versions.
