Nyani began playing Smash competitively upon the release of Brawl, maining Mario. She primarily played with [[Inui]], as they attended the same college, and attended [[Montage]]'s series of local tournaments. Due to her favorite character having generally poor matchups, and the pressure of competing with the top-level players that New Jersey was home to at the time, she grew frustrated with the game and retired for a few years.
